In Stores This Week: X-Men Minimates, Universal Monsters and the Walking Dead
October 19, 2012

It’s New Toy Day at your local comic shop, which means you need to head down there and stake your claim on the latest action figures from Diamond Select Toys! This week brings Minimates, 7″ action figures and retro-style figures based on Marvel Comics, Universal Monsters and the Walking Dead! It’s exciting and horrifying at the same time!

Marvel Minimates Series 47: X-Men vs. Brood
Mutants and humanity have had their differences, but they have a mutual enemy: the Brood! This interstellar race of parasites has preyed on men and X-Men alike, and this wave of At Asylum-designed Marvel Minimates includes three all-new comic-based two-packs: Rogue with Colossus, Longshot with Dazzler, and Wolverine with a Brood, plus a rare, one-per-case variant where Wolverine has been infected by a Brood egg! Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation and a variety of removable and interchangeable parts and accessories. The figures in this assortment will only be available in comic shops and specialty stores, so don’t miss out! Designed by Art Asylum!

Universal Monsters Select: Phantom of the Opera
The newest Universal Monsters figure from DST is from one of the oldest Universal Monsters films! From the 1923 version of Phantom of the Opera comes Lon Chaney as the Phantom, rendered by sculpting virtuoso Jean St. Jean!  Standing 7 inches tall and fully articulated, the Phantom comes with a book of music and his organ accessory, and both the unmasked sculpt and the organ are exclusive to this version. It’s like a piece of movie history you can put on your shelf! The Phantom and his organ come in display-ready collector packaging, and are only available on the specialty market!

Universal Monsters Retro Cloth Action Figures Series 3
The best-selling retro cloth line makes its terrifying return! For their third year of re-creating the iconic Universal Monsters in the classic Mego style, DST introduces the Bride of Frankenstein, with real cloth gown and bandages, and the Creature from the Black Lagoon, with a unique blend of sculpted and fabric parts! Designed and Sculpted by EMCE Toys, each figure stands 8″ tall with over 14 points of articulation and an authentically detailed full cloth outfit, and comes packaged in re-sealable clamshell packaging.

Walking Dead Minimates B&W Halloween ComicFest 2-Pack
The Walking Dead comic book has reached its landmark 100th issue, and Diamond Select Toys is celebrating with an exclusive black-and-white two-pack of Walking Dead Minimates! Winter Coat Dale and the Female Zombie come colored in shades of grey, in honor of the long-running black-and-white series, and will only be available through retailers participating in Halloween ComicFest. Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation and a variety of removable and interchangeable parts and accessories.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
