Last Call For MattyCollector.com – Website Closes TONIGHT!
December 31, 2016

After offering toy fans 8 years of  over 300 original, unique products sold, TODAY is the last day of MattyCollector.com.  It was announced to fans back in July at San Diego Comic Con that MattyCollector.com would be scuttled at the end of the year.  Today 12/31/16 is the last day of MattyCollector.com.

Over the past 8 years Matty has offered fans products from over a dozen licenses including: Masters of the Universe, DC Universe Classics, Justice League Unlimted, WWE, Ghostbusters, Thundercats, Back to the Future, 1966 Batman, DC Total Heroes and many more.  In it’s time, Matty offered us action figures, display stands and prop replicas as well as opening the door for us to get even more convention exclusives each year.  All of that new, monthly toy goodness delivered right to our mailboxes each and every month.  Because of Matty, the MOTUC line expanded well beyond any of it’s previous incarnations, we were able to complete our 6″ Super Powers collection, we got 2 more years of DCUC products and Justice League Unlimited lived on well beyond it’s scheduled cancellation plan.

I was going through my old, saved mail concerning Matty and came across the original information tease that was sent out to the collector press.  This email is dated 7/2/08, here is the section talking about the yet to be announced “collector website”:

And don’t forget some amazing unique exclusives at the show. Details about Lobo, Grayskull, Giganta, McQueen and a few other surprises are below. And be sure to stick around for the biggest news of them all… Starting the Monday after Comic Con, because you demanded it, Mattel will be launching a brand new Collector Website with the latest news, updates, previews and – the big one – EXCLUSIVE action figures from your favorite Mattel toy lines like CARS, DCU and more! Wait – you want more? – this new site will also be the EXCLUSIVE home of Masters of the Universe Classic action figures with a new character available EACH MONTH starting this fall!

Of course we’ll have more details including the URL name at San Diego Comic Con, but we wanted to make sure to give online toy fans the scoop first. Oh – and to kick off the new online store, we’ll be putting aside a very limited number of each of this year’s SDCC exclusives which will go on sale on the new collector web site at 8:00 am Eastern Standard Time on July 28th.

Of course Matty was never without it’s problems or it’s controversy, from the original “white screen of death” on their early order page to the countless issues with Digital River, who ran the back end of Matty, there was never a dull moment when it came to MattyCollector.com.

There are still a lot of products available to order today on the site, from new products launched this month, to older products across several license still in stock.  If there’s anything you still want or need, now is the time to grab it.

It’s a bittersweet day for many of us.  Sad that there will be no more monthly offerings from Matty, but happy that we will never have to trust Digital River with our personal and financial information ever again.

So long MattyCollector.com and thanks for all the additional plastic!

Daniel Pickett

Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since.

In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features.

He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced.

In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com.

Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s
“Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com,
Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official
Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many
others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows.

But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

I’d like to know where my ThunderCats are. I’m still waiting for Pumyra/Mumm-Ra to arrive after paying for those some time ago and Panthro should be on his way. My friend who did the one-lot delivery got her whole big box of the complete wave of figures (two of each as she ordered) a few days ago.

  • Jim Gillespie says:

So what’s going to happen to all the items that are leftover after the site closes?

  • Mohit bharatwal says:

As far as i concern, Mattycollector will pass all leftover figures to “Super 7” online figures website and now Super 7 will be sell these action figures. this state came in light in June 2016. So you one has to visit Super 7 website, in case anyone wants to buy these action figures.
    Will Miss Mattycollector lot……….

  • Shawn says:

I also want to know what will happen to their leftover stock. Does Super7 get it? Will some other online retailer get it? Will it get sent to a discount retail store? Does it get sold at a warehouse sale only locals can go to? Or melted down and made into Barbie and Monster High dolls?

  • Scott says:

Ok I’m sorted. Got a lot of packages today and amongst them were a box containing Pumyra and Mumm-Ra and a box containing Panthro. Dunno why they all turned up on same day but I’m glad they’ve all arrived and I can stop worrying. 😀

    • BeaviS says:

Nobody cares. Plenty of people are still waiting for on items to arrive… You could have just checked your tracking info .. instead of coming to action figure insider to complain about your Matty order….

      • Scott says:

There was no tracking info on these items. And there was no complaining, it was general wondering about expensive items I had been locked into a subscription with from a company closing down that particular service. But hey thanks for caring enough to have a go at me for no reason at all! 😀

You were right to come here, i had placed a large order with digital river the day of the sale on the 19th. I kept checking my order status only to fund still on process. I finally had to call customer service to be told that everything would be delivered to me even though they had shut down. Today I get an email stating that my entire order had been canceled and the they would refund me. Apparently they no longer have access to inventory, according to digital river.

          • Mike says:

Yes, I just got an email saying my order was cancelled. No explaination, no mention of a refund. Nothing. What the hell happened?
