New today in the AFi archives we have the long rumored and highly anticipated DC Universe Classics SDCC 2010 Exclusive PLASTIC MAN! I think most of us were impressed when we first saw this figure revealed on "Attack of the Show" but it’s not until you get this figure in your hand that you see how impressive it REALLY is. Mattel exceeded every expectation on the execution of this figure from the accessories/attachments to the packaging.
I took roughly 50 pictures of the figure for this feature and there are still hundreds of other combinations you can put the figure in that I wasn’t able to shoot and post in time. There also some cool touches that you wouldn’t know about until you open the figure… but it’s hard to open him because the package is SO cool. I know that some collectors grouse about the amount of effort that Mattel puts into their con exclusive packaging, but have to admit this one is really inspired with it designed to look like Plastic Man himself has BECOME the packaging.
When you open up the package you won’t believe how many parts there are included. And true to form, the Four Horsemen and Mattel have included cool extra touches like:
- - A working paddle ball
- - Rubberized "squishy" cover to the bendable neck extension piece
- - The spring lower torso is a real, working spring.
- - Case file on Plastic Man mentioning his possible escape from the facility designed as a toy package
- - WEARABLE Plastic Man goggles. These aren’t just cardboard glasses, these are wearable, adjustable and wrap all the way around your head.
Also featured in the archive entry is the SDCC 2010 exclusive piece- the suitcase. The suitcase comes poly-bagged separately and will only be available at the con for those that purchase Plastic Man at the Mattel booth. Plastic Man’s arms and neck attach easily and suitcase can open to reveal the "loot" that Plas picked up from the convention. There is also a small SDCC logo on the back of the suitcase.
If you were on the fence about this figure or you think you own another version of Plastic Man that you are content with, you will not be disappointed to pick up the Mattel version either at the con or on MattyCollector.com Words and pictures can not do justice to how fun of a figure this turned out to be!
