Welcome to 2011! It’s the start of the new year and the start of a new round of Q&A’s with our friends at Mattel. Twice a month the gang from Mattel are kind enough to answer five questions from AFi readers. Matty from MattyCollector.com and ToyGuru, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums. This is a great round of answers and even has some breaking news in answer #5!
Before we get to the Q&A, just a reminder that the MattyCollector.com sale will be on Tuesday Jan 18th this month because of the MLK day weekend. It’s also worth mentioning that there has been a last minute change on the on sale line-up that Mattel announced yesterday:
Just as we were ready to confirm our list of products for Tuesday’s sale, Evil-Lyn® went all diva and decided she would be a no-show. Luckily, The Goddess offered to check her ego at the garden gate and has stepped in to take her place, so once again, good triumphs. Take THAT, Evil-Lyn®!*
So, here’s our really, truly, final list of products that’ll be available on Tuesday, January 18th:
Please note The Goddess won’t be a re-issue; we’ll be offering remaining customer service stock. As always, the sale starts at 9 a.m. Pacific (12 noon Eastern), so don’t forget to mark your calendar. I send reminder emails, too, so click here if you haven’t registered yet, You can follow me on Twitter and Facebook, too.
P.S. Evil-Lyn® can’t play coy forever. Her reissue is still coming; it has just slipped out a month or two. Look for an update on availability soon.
Now on to your questions and Matty’s answers:
Q1. Everyone is really excited for the full reveals of the Young Justice toy line next year and the news that they will be in scale with Justice League Unlimited figures. However, many of the characters from the show (Robin, Speedy, Superboy, Kid Flash, ect.) are also figures we would love to see done for Justice League Unlimited. Are those characters off limits to JLU because they will be on the Young Justice show and in the Young Justice toy line or could we possibly see those characters in both lines?
A1. Those characters are in no way off limits for JLU just because they are in Young Justice. However, our priority for JLU right now is to finish the on-screen members of the team (which does include Speedy after all!). We will try to keep JLU going as long as there is support from retailers or online customers.
Q2. DCUC Wave 16 looks awesome! Az-bats is one of my favorites so far. I am wondering if the pieces on his glove are removable ? The "blades" if you will on his arms look like they are on backwards are they removable or are they going to be corrected ? I have faith you guys saved Superboys neck,I know its hard to make some of the 90s figures look cool but you guys do !
A2. The blades are not removable but they do rotate and are correct on the final figure.
Q3. Will the Batman Brave and the Bold "Robin" Action League figure be released as part of the new action league line or be released at all?
A3. No plans at this time, but now that Action League is part of the DCU line the character selection available to us is much larger so this is possible down the road!
Q4. In Toy Fare issue #162 Mattel announced the animated Young Justice line and showed the “build-a-façade” Hall of Justice. Can you tell us how many pieces that set will be broken up into and if we will get the entire thing in the first assortment of figures?
A4. We will have all of these details to reveal at Collector Press night at NYTF on February 13th from 3-6 pm.
Q5. With the TRU exclusive Hal Vs. (right scaled) Sinestro, does that open back up the door (if it does well) for more TRU DCUC 2packs?
A5. Yes. We can confirm that two new DCUC two-packs are coming to TRU in late 2011, one of which will include the Black Tux Joker originally scheduled for a single repaint release. (I think it is pretty obvious who the second figure will be with a new whiter face!). Now if we can just find a home for Modern Red Tornado, Light Blue Superman, Gold Dr. Fate we’ll be all caught up! (Oh and Yellow Corps Sinestro needs a height fix too…) Working on it all!
The next Q&A have already been submitted, but if you’d like to ask a question for the February 15th submission then feel free to post your questions in our Mattel Q&A question submissions thread! Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters,WWE any of the Mattel DC lines and Cars. Twice a month we draw our submission question directly from the ones that AFi readers post.
You can submit new questions in this thread.
You can find our past Q&A’s here. And you can discuss the answers at our Mattel board!
