Another MattyCollector sale day has come and gone. Three of the six items on sale today sold out on the first day and two more are "almost gone." Keldor and She-Ra sold out as expected, and Lobo disappeared quicker than most anticipated. How did you do on what you were looking to pick up today?
Matty from MattyCollector.com and ToyGuru, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.
Q1. Without giving specific numbers or names, can you please let us JLU fans know if the JLU showing at this year’s SDCC will be less than, equal to, or greater than last year’s reveals/showings? And, by extension, would we see any potential 2011 JLU mock-ups or prototypes there?
A1. What you’re really asking is “will JLU continue in 2011?” We’re not yet ready to announce past the remaining 2010 singles and three-packs right now. To avoid building up any false expectations, the remaining 2010 singles are made up of the “skipped wave” of already announced figures like Omac and Red Tornado. The three-packs are still unannounced. The six-packs for 2010 were dropped due to lowered retailer interest.
This doesn’t mean we won’t have more to announce at SDCC beyond this, but we’re just not ready to pull the trigger yet. Stay tuned for SDCC!
Q2. I know that Target has the exclusive rights to the JLU line . Does this prohibit Mattel from selling figures that have previously been released and sold out at Target on the MattyCollector.com website? I know that tooling new figures cost money. We’ve heard repeatedly the reasons why the four packs are no longer offered. I’m talking about figures that have already come and gone that saw horribly limited release. Some of these go for HUNDREDS on ebay.
Wouldn’t Mattel rather have that money?
A2. Much like the re-release of DCUC Wave 5, we could re-release older JLU packs online, but right now we’re not sure of the audience size. Yes, there are very vocal fans out there, but so far none of the JLU items on Mattycollector.com have performed at the level we like to see in order to justify extending the line through re-releases (especially because some fans do already have these hard to find items, which further cuts into the potential buyers/audience for a set).
We’ll have to see how JLU Lobo and DCUC Wave 5 re-release do before moving on to something like this. It is always a possibility if there are enough customers to support it.
Q3. Hi! I’ve been a long-time fan and follower of the Justice League and Justice League Unlimited lines, and as a Wonder Woman fan as well, have been disappointed by the lack of WW friends and allies. I get that you have to be careful of how many female figures you include, but could you set me straight on whether or not a Hippolyta figure is something that could be in this line, given that she isn’t very ‘action’ oriented, and a female to boot? I could see an entire 6 pack devoted to Diana’s friends and foes, and Hippy would be a great inclusion there – but how likely is that? *throws lasso of truth around ya*
A3. We did Amanda Waller in JLU, which I think that shows anything is possible in JLU! Hippolyta and other Wonder Woman figures would be great but nothing to confirm right now.
Q4. When will we see figures of characters from Ghostbusters2?
A4. There will be six new 6” Ghostbuster Classic figures in 2011, quite a few will be movie two figures.
Q5. I know there is an internal Mattel(and fans, too) desire to complete teams in a DC line once they have been started. Regarding Justice League Unlimited, does this also still apply? We have four Doom Patrol members, but we’re missing Beast Boy and later additions like Negative Woman. We have four Justice Guild members, but no Catman. Future Superman, Terry McGinnis, Warhawk, but no Micron, Aquagirl, Kai-Ro, future Barda. Is there a motivation to complete these and other teams in the JLU line?
A5. Absolutely, we want to complete all of our teams in all of our scales as long as there is retail and fan support for the lines!
The next round of questions have already been turned in, but if you want to get in on the NEXT round we need your questions by June 28th. Remember they can be about any Mattel product including MOTUC, Ghostbusters and Cars. You can submit new questions in this thread.
You can find our past Q&A’s here. And you can discuss the answers at our Mattel board.
