September is here and with it brings us another round of Q&A with Mattel! Matty from MattyCollector.com and ToyGuru, have replied with the answers to our latest round of questions that AFi readers have posted in our forums.
Q1. Will the JLU Warlord figure come with any sort of accessory? A sword?
A1. Not in the upcoming 3-pack, but this is a great suggestion for a single release down the road.
Q2. Is there any chance of doing Collect ‘n Connect playset pieces in DCUC? I suggested doing Batcave pieces (e.g., chair and computer, giant penny, dinosaur, Jason memorial, etc.), but there could be many different ones (e.g., JL satellite, JSA Brownstone, Fortress of Solitude, Daily Planet, etc.)
A2. It is something that has come up again and again in our design brainstorms. A great idea, but nothing is locked in. This is clearly something we know the fans would want!
Q3. Now that the Superpowers theme seems to be coming to an end in DC Universe Classics any thoughts on whats next ? I am part of the younger crowd who really did not grow up with Superfriends, I would love to see a Total justice theme. You could give us that style Huntress,Hawkman and Black Lightning.
A3. Who said the Superfriends tribute is coming to an end? We have big plans to keep going with this theme, which may include some of the ideas you are suggesting!
Q4. Are you guys thinking ahead on the army builder type figures in
the MOTUC line, such as the Eternian Guards and Shadow Beasts, and increasing the production numbers beyond the idea of "everyone just wants one?" Most collectors will want all 4 of the guards on display.
A4. Yes, we are looking at higher production numbers based on fans wanting to army build these sets! That is why the guards have so many interchangeable parts. This is what happens when toy fans also design product!
Q5. I recently heard Toyguru say that the "naked" DCUC Cheetah from wave 13 is in limbo. Alot of fans really want this figure and were told it was coming. Some of us took that to heart and did not buy the few that showed up online. Do you think you could do Matty.com exclusive "limbo" wave ? Maybe give us modern Red Tornado, gold Dr Fate fixed,Naked Cheetah, white face Harley and the classic Gaurdian. I know alot of fans would buy that set even with no collect and connect pieces.
A5. We did have plans for this figure but they fell through. That is why Cheetah is now in limbo. We are committed to getting to her, it will just take some logistical work (much like the other limbo figures you mentioned). We’re just getting warmed up!
And while we are talking about Mattel, just today Mattel posted the official line-up for items on sale on September 15th on MattyCollector.com:
