Personally there are just three characters I ABSOLUTELY have to have in Mattel’s 6" DC Universe Classics format before the line ends. Two of them have not been announced yet (Golden Age and Jack Knight Starmen) and the other… is Animal Man.
For me, the Animal Man comic (as well as Neil Gaiman’s Sandman) played a big part in my transition in the early 90′s from reading mostly Marvel Comics to re-introducing me to DC Comics. The 26 issues of Animal Man also introduced me to a new "up and coming" writer by the name of Grant Morrison. To this day, that 26 issue arc of Morrison’s Animal Man is some of the best super-hero, deconstruction, time travel stories I have ever read.
The heartbreaking thing for me back in the early 90s was knowing that no matter HOW deep Hasbro went with their DC license, that I would NEVER get an Animal Man figure. At that time DC Direct hadn’t yet formed under the name "DC Direct" and even so, it took me 10 years to get my Animal Man figure from them.
But now, the toy gods are really smiling down on me for being so patient. NOW, I get a second Animal Man figure, this time from the Four Horsemen and the gang at Mattel. And it’s AWESOME!! And they threw in B’wana Beast too! I couldn’t wait to crack this 2-pack open. It was like Christmas came early!
This DC Universe Classics 2-pack "Justice in the Jungle" will be available on MattyCollector.com on December 15th.
But you can get better look at it early if you hop on over to the AFi Toy Archive and see lots more pictures!
