Back in September AFi brought you the news that Toys R Us  was testing out an end cap in select stores where you could pre-order collectibles.   At the time it was just an side end cap with empty pegs and we didn’t know how it would work or what would be available. This weekend I saw the first tags on the pegs giving us an idea of what will be available and how it will work.

Judging by these first two it looks like the preorders will work just like TRU’s video game and DVD preorder system, whereby you give them a $5 deposit and the balance is due when the item arrives.   The real difference being that video games and DVD have a set drop date where you know they will be in stores, not all toy companies can predict their in-store dates that accurately.   Fortunately NECA is pretty good about that so they make sense to use at launch of this program.

According to these tickets there is an estimated date range of about two weeks when the figures should arrive.   Also in the fine print it mentions that you have to pick up your pre-ordered figures within two weeks of it arriving in stores.    I’ll be curious to see how that ends up working and if all of the companies that will participate in this trial can get their products to the participating TRUs in the window stated on the card.

More on this as it develops.
