Ok, this is what you’ve been waiting for. Prototype pictures are one thing, packaged shots are closer, but what about the finished product, out of the box? In the midst of work and the midnight Wall-e screening I went to last night, I managed to snap some loose shots of the figure from the first DCU Infinite Heroes boxed set. This is a Flash based boxed set.
Say what you will about style and articulation for this line… but the fact that we got The Flash and FOUR of his Rouges Gallery in the FIRST WAVE of Infinite Heroes speaks volumes about where Mattel plans to go with this line.

These three figures are all based on the same "buck" body with some variation where the costume dictates. Some times the variation comes from additional parts glued on such as Mirror Master’s belt and collar, and some times it is newly sculpted pieces such as Flash’s boots.
The articulation breakdown is: Swivel neck, ball jointed shoulders, pin elbows, swivel waist, hip swivel and pin knees.
THE FLASH

MIRROR MASTER

WEATHER WIZARD

The finished product is much better than the early prototypes shown at Toy Fair back in February. The paint is not glossy, the articulation more apparent, and the "Crisis" theme intriguing. It’s still a little hard to see Mattel’s vision for the line as the first wave seems a bit of a smattering of eras. With the finished product figures I have here it looks like they have more of a unifying style to them now as well. I’ve heard some talk of their plans and it does sound really good for DC fans. I’m sure we will get a lot more answers at a better look at the future of this line in a few weeks at Comic Con.
A couple of comparison shots, starting with a few other like-scaled figures-
Indy, IH, Dark Knight, IH, Star Wars, IH
Super Powers Flash and Infinite Heroes Flash
A comparison shot of the MiniMates Flash SP Flash, IH Flash and JLU Flash.
Infinite Heroes Professor Zoom and Flash
Look for more updates with loose pictures of the single carded figures coming soon!

In a nice surprise, the final Infinite Heroes figures and packaging by Mattel are here for your viewing enjoyment! The production figures do look a bit nicer than the prototypes, and the selection is really, really crazy insane in terms of how deep they are going into the character selection right off the bat.
Also note that a new 3-pack is shown on the back of one of the packages: Starfire, Captain Boomerang, and Raven! We also see proof that this line will be concretely tied-in to DC Comics big events, with a "Crisis" logo front and center for at least this first series. Not to mention the bubble is shaped like a giant hand! And check out the "Anti-Monitor" points you can amass by clipping the UPC codes…
Look for lots more to be revealed at San Diego Comic Con next month.

Diamond Select Toys and Collectibles (DST) is excited to announce plans to once again participate in the annual Blood Drive at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con! To emphasize the importance of giving blood, Diamond Select will be donating a limited edition exclusive Battlestar Galactica Season 3 Chief Tyrol figure as a giveaway for participating donors!
Chief Tyrol has been featured on Sci-Fi’s Battlestar Galactica since 2003 and remains a fan-favorite character. The figure has been limited to 750 pieces, and will only be available through the blood drive – they will not be on sale or given away elsewhere.
“After the last three years’ extremely successful campaigns, we’re delighted to once again be contributing to the Robert A Heinlein Blood Drive,” said Chuck Terceira, Director of Diamond Select Toys. “They’ve broken three consecutive records, so we’re hoping for even more blood to be donated this year!”
In its 31st year, the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive has long been a San Diego Comic-Con staple. After science-fiction writer Robert A. Heinlein was ill, he needed several pints of a rare blood type. Following the illness, Heinlein created a personal rule that he would only attend conventions and sign autographs for those that donated blood. This started the Robert A. Heinlein Blood Drive at San Diego Comic-Con in the early 1970’s. Last year’s 847 pints was the most blood collected at the drive in ten years, thanks in part to Diamond Select Toys’ continued support and promotional action figures.
"We are pleased to have Diamond Select on board to support the Blood Drive. Their donation of such a limited edition collectible will certainly help the awareness and success of the annual event," remarked Comic-Con Director of Marketing and Public Relations, David Glanzer.
To register for the Blood Drive, stop by the Blood Drive booth at Comic-Con or visit the Comic-Con website, www.comic-con.org, for additional instructions and information.

June 2008 – The “Fishgirl”, first in the Monster Chic line of prepainted statues is now available for pre-order at www.greenwellstudios.com! Master sculptor Sam Greenwell is turning his wildly popular resin kit line Monster Chic into a line of prepainted collectible statues, starting with the stunning Fishgirl.
The Fishgirl…for lack of a better name, that’s what the world called her. Some said she was an alien, some said she was some sort of mutant. Still others claimed she was a goddess sent to save the oceans from man’s indifference to the damage being done. The only thing not in dispute was the Change. The oceans had been transformed. Ancient beasts, creatures from Man’s deepest blackest nightmares, had been awakened. Even the water itself felt different, hostile. It was clear; Mankind was no longer welcome.
From the imagination of sculptor Sam Greenwell comes the first in the "Monster Chic" line, the Fishgirl. The Fishgirl statue stands 15 inches tall and is strictly limited to 500 pieces. Painstakingly detailed, the Fishgirl statue will add a nice touch of creepy to any collection.

The fourth and last of the statues in Weta’s range of collectibles from Disney’s The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian is now available for pre-order on Weta’s website.
Short in stature but lacking nothing in courage, the irrepressible Reepicheep leads the valiant talking mice of Prince Caspian’s motley Narnian army. In service to a righteous cause and with honour as his badge, Reepicheep is unwavering in his sense of duty and carries himself with all the chivalrous decorum of a true King’s knight. Though they might at first laugh, none who feel the sting of his flashing rapier doubt his mettle for long.
The Reepicheep statue is a study in indomitable attitude. This wonderful character has been sublimely realised by Weta sculptor Greg Tozer, based on a drawing by Weta’s Nick Keller, the artist also responsible for designing Reeipcheep’s intricate rapier for the film.
The piece comes in a STRICTLY LIMITED EDITION OF 500 and measures 8.5” (22 cm) H x 8.25” (21 cm) W x 7” (18 cm) D
Still to be released is a range of miniature helmets from both the first Narnia films.
Now that the full range of statues is available – sales are bound to start taking off, so if you haven’t already joined our affiliate programme, you should consider it. J

A MODERN MONA LISA
TORRANCE, CA, June 25, 2008. Enigmatic beauty. Two words used to describe the Mona Lisa, a figure which has captivated our collective imaginations for over five centuries. Now, Yamato USA is proud to offer a modern Mona Lisa whose own enigmatic beauty will captivate us for centuries to come… AKIRA.
Inspired by the work of renowned artist Dorian Cleavenger and sculpted by Plant-jzero Moekichi, Akira is the first piece in Yamato USA’s Fantasy Figure Gallery. The Fantasy Figure Gallery is a groundbreaking union of East and West as the leading sculptors of Asia deliver the worlds of legendary fantasy artists from Europe and the Americas as only they are capable. But what’s more, these gorgeous, resin-quality fantasy figures are made affordable for all through advanced PVC technology. How’s this?
For over a decade, Yamato has been on a quest, a quest for quality. Through advanced mold engineering, PAD printing, and stringent quality control, we have minimized the shrinkage, deformation, and rough, unsightly parting lines typical of other PVC products. Moreover, we have championed the paint application process. Take for example, Akira!
Standing at an impressive 10.50”, 15.00” with her ornamental staff and themed display base, Akira is constructed of over 100 individual pieces and features over 400 paint applications, twice the conventional statue. The result: an amazingly detailed piece of unmatched quality. But artist Dorian Cleavenger puts it best: “Yamato USA’s attention to detail and accuracy has far surpassed any expectations I’ve had; it’s like seeing my painting come to life. They have created a beautiful piece of art. This to me is a ‘dream’ come ‘true.’“
Indeed. A beautiful piece of art. And as her soft, enigmatic features draw you in and take your breath away as they have with us, you will know why we liken her to a modern Mona Lisa.
Yamato USA and its distribution partners are pleased to accept preorders for its Fantasy Figure Gallery: Akira now through August 22, 2008 with a Winter 2008 release at a suggested retail price of only $98. For more information, contact your local comic shop or visit us at www.YamatoToysUSA.com.
