Once again our pal Toy Guru from Mattel updates us on the answers to our post NYCC burning questions:

Q1. Is the Wal-mart Wave considered wave 5 of DCUC or is it a separate wave in your numbering system?   Thereby making the Hawkman/Mr. Miracle/Recovery Suit Superman wave 5 or wave 6?

A: The Wal-Mart Wave is Wave 5, the Hawkman Wave is Wave 6.

Q2. thanks for reissuing Azrael from DCSH. is there any chance we’ll ever see the elusive Cyborg Superman reissued? that would be fantastic. Thanks again!

A: You’ll just have to wait and see. We’ll announce the next pair of DCUC TRU 2-packs at SDCC in July.

Q3. What can you tell us about DCHerozone.com website that’s mentioned on the back of the Dark Knight packaging?

A: This will be a brand new website featuring games, Mattel toy previews  and information about the new film Batman the Dark Knight

Q4. DCIH – Will this line have accessories? batarangs, green lanterns, cold guns, etc? Expected msrp for this line?

A: Some figures will have accessories and we have some great plans for accessories in 2009. The singles will retail for about 5.99, the 3 packs for 15.99.

Q5:  I have to ask about the Toys R Us azrael/batgirl two-pack:will this release of Batgirl black/yellow "first appearance" costume (instead of the blue and gray that was already released), and will azrael’s neck be modified to look up?

A: Both of these characters will remain unchanged from their original release.

A bonus question for our international friends:
Q6. Is there any chance of making the Mattel line available VIA Diamond Select for international distribution? I’ve seen the Previews catalogue and there are some items that allow for this. Foreign retailers can order these said items but US retailers cannot.

This will help preserve your exclusivity deals with Target, TRU and Wal*Mart but make your product available to us hapless international collectors.

A: We are continuing to work with all of our international markets to bring collector items to them. One of the issues we face is that while there is a small vocal group of fans wanting this product in different international territories such as South America, Europe and Asia, they do not always represent the entire international territory’s buying habits. We will do our best to try and meet collector needs while maintinaing case packs and product that fills the needs of international markets.

You can find our past Q&A’s here. And you can discuss the answers at our Mattel board.

Teheran – Apr 27, 2008, 23:37 GMT-

Iran’s prosecutor general on Sunday warned of the ‘negative impact’ which Western toys could have for Iranian children, ISNA news agency reported.

Qorban-Ali Dori-Najafabadi said the mainly illegally-imported toys such as Barbie, Batman, Harry Potter and Spiderman might cause ‘irreparable (cultural) damage.’

In a letter to Vice President Parviz Davoudi, the ultra- conservative cleric called on the government to find alternatives for what he called the ‘cultural offensive.’

Iranian clergy have warned in the last three decades of a ‘Western cultural invasion’ in the form of movies, music and fashion, and tried to confront it – so far with little success.

In an effort to counter highly popular Barbie dolls, Iran in 1996 began producing an Islamic version named Sarah and her brother Dara, but these found little resonance among Iranian children.

The Institute for Intellectual Development of Children and Young Adults at that time even compared Barbie dolls with the ‘Wooden Horse of Troy, with many cultural invading soldiers inside it’.

Despite the counter-measures, Western articles – especially music CDs and DVDs of US movies – have boomed in Iran, especially on the black market where they are available at prices ranging between one and two US dollars.

The first piece in the range of collectibles for Disney’s The Chronicles Of Narnia: Prince Caspian that Weta announced earlier this month is now available to pre-order from Weta’s website, www.wetanz.com/princecaspian /satyr.

The Warrior Satyr is based on a concept drawing by Weta designer Stephen Crowe: "I wanted quite an action-filled piece, and the real challenge was conveying that sense of movement and force in a static collectible. I wanted the Satyr to look defiant, as though he were in mid charge, about to attack."

The statue is available in a strictly limited edition of only 300, so Weta recommend getting in early!

Further preview and pre-order announcements will be sent to Weta’s mailing list. Sign up at www.wetanz.com/mailinglist

SAN FRANCISCO (April 23, 2008) – SEGA® of America, Inc. announced it is working with renowned toy designer and manufacturer, Hasbro, Inc., to produce a line of toys based on THE INCREDIBLE HULK video game. Targeting the core fans of Marvel’s renowned green goliath THE INCREDIBLE HULK, Hasbro’s licensed toy line will include four action figures based on characters seen in the official video game from SEGA, including Bi-Beast and The Gray Hulk. The remaining two toys will be announced at Comic Con in San Diego, CA in July 2008. The figures will be available for an approximate retail price of $9.99 each and are recommended for ages 4 and up.

"We are extremely excited about teaming up with Hasbro," said Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing at SEGA of America, Inc. "The Hulk franchise is the most recognized brand in the Marvel Universe and the anticipation surrounding the release of INCREDIBLE HULK movie, video game and Hasbro’s toy lineup are a winning combination."

Based on the blockbuster Marvel® franchise and comic book saga, THE INCREDIBLE HULK video game is an intensely realistic third-person action title that will be available on all major video game platforms in June 2008. With the upcoming release of THE INCREDIBLE HULK video game, the new toy line from HASBRO is a must-have product for any HULK fan.

“Hasbro is thrilled to be working with SEGA to bring HULK fans four very special action figures based on several Marvel characters appearing in the video game,” said Eric Nyman, Vice President of Boys Marketing at Hasbro, Inc. “The action figures and video game are two great ways for kids and fans to experience THE INCREDIBLE HULK and expand their HULK collections.”

In the fast-paced, action-packed video game, players take the role of Bruce Banner who scours the planet trying to find the antidote to cure him of his involuntary rage brought on by exposure to deadly gamma rays. As one of Marvel®’s most powerful Super Heroes, players can demolish anything in their path, including lamp posts, passing cars and even buildings. The fury-fueled game also features key moments from the film, as well as additional plotlines and characters from THE INCREDIBLE HULK universe. Players crash through New York City, battling gigantic enemies amidst soaring skyscrapers in a massive open world where anything and everything can be used as a weapon.
