Update!!! All slides from panel now in our Mattel Gallery!

The big Mattel/ DC Universe panel is going on right now, and we’re giving you the highlights as if you were there (except we’re probably leaving out a bunch of stuff that we’ll get to later, plus the whole no pictures thing). Pictures soon to follow!

JLU:
The other villain in the Gorilla Grodd 6 pack is Joker as the Red Hood. Rest of figures are Superman, Batman, Grey/Black Luthor, and Flash. They wanted every hero in pack to have a villain counterpart. Why Red Hood? Because every DC Universe character can now be made in animated style! Legion of Superheroes and Teen Titans animated shows can also be folded into the line. Line name will change in 2008.

SDCC 3-Pack (Ray/Shayera) will not be singles down the road. Line restructuring in 2008- want to make it the final word in collector driven lines. Want line to have as many characters as possible; line will last as long as it continues to sell. Working on case packs, they understand frustrations, and may re-release previously hard to find figures. No plans for JLU Hal Jordan, but looking into it. Charleton heroes (Captain Atom, Question) are possible. Line format will change in 2008. 10" "giant" figures such as Giganta and Atom Smasher possible.

Said they were listening to fans while showing slide of Cheetah, Giganta, Blackhawk, Captain Atom, Captain Marvel. Those are not guaranteed coming, but they know what fans want and are listening. Asked fans to be patient, but big things are coming and getting the master license changed their plans in mid-stream. New JLU to be shown maybe at WW Chicago, but probably later.

DC SuperHeroes:
Name changing to DC Universe Classics. First wave will hit shelves in January 2008. Initial heroes to include Red Tornado, Penguin, Etrigan the Demon, Orion, 70′s Batman (new body) with a Build-A-Figure Metamorpho. (Classic) Red Tornado & Penguin (with Penguins) are the chase variant figures. Series 2 will have Firestorm, Harley Quinn, Black Manta, Electric (blue) Superman, Classic Aquaman- Will be shown at WW Chicago. Series 2 BAF not announced. 2008 will see 5 waves of 5 figures, all waves will have BAF. BAF will be 25% larger than regular figure. Variants will have same BAF piece as regular figure, so not needed to complete BAF. Each wave character mix will go together in some way. Themed waves (JSA, all villains, etc.) are being looked at. 6" Wonder Woman and 4H sculpted Robin are coming. Vertigo & Wildstorm characters are off limits.

Wave 2 Teaser Slide!

Cyborg Superman coming, Batman Series 4: Clayface, Transforming Bruce Wayne, Nightwing (new deco/accessories), Catwoman, Gas Mask Joker (prior overseas release).

6" Four Horsemen The Dark Knight line in 2008 to go with 5" regular movie figures. 6" line will have 3 heroes and 3 villains from TDK movie.

The Batman:
Will have Hawkman, Superman, Hal Jordan GL, Martian Manhunter, Flash are all coming.

There will be a Black Canary Barbie

More to come!

Day One Galleries are now online: Hasbro, Mattel, McFarlane, DC Direct, Diamond, and BiffBangPow!

Our man Mike has done it again with his awesome reportage. He braved the crowds and the horrific stories about the nightmare that was Hasbro’s Store booth to bring us this stirring report:

As mentioned on our news page, Hasbro held their Marvel panel today. Daniel already covered most of it below, but here’s a few more items:

1) Don’t be surprised to see Shang-Chi show up in Legends at some point in the not too distant future. That’s a favorite character of one of Hasbro’s designers.
2) Someone asked if any Star Wars characters will show up in Legends. 6" scale, articulated Star Wars characters are something that Hasbro’s talked about doing.
3) HML 4 will be the first wave of 2008. Nova, Astonishing X-Men Beast, Black Bolt (Variant redeco), First Appearance Daredevil (Red variant), The "Tim Bradstreet" Punisher (Variant Crossbones) and Tigra. Nemesis will be the BAF. Six figure waves will be the norm from this point on.
4) The Black Queen will be a TRU exclusive.
5) No variants in the FF Ronan BAF assortment. That should hit shelves in October.
6) FF animated series toys: Only if the cartoon moves forward with new episodes.
7) Someone asked about Thunderbolts two-packs. Hasbro says it’s on their radar.
8 ) First Appearance Storm? That will happen. The Hasbro team loves First Appearance.
9) Will their be an Iron Man movie line? Yes. It will be shown at Toy fair. Scale? They won’t say. They don’t want to discuss 2008.
10) The brand managers and the designers that were on the panel acknowledged making mistakes. They said that it was a learning curve. They will try and do better. They read the boards to see what we want.
11) BAS (Build-A-Set) and BAVs (Build-A-Vehicle) were mentioned. There’s no plans for those right now, but Hasbro considers them an option.
12) Some of the ToyBiz stuff that was show last year was asked about. The X-Babies, Thor Frog, Forbush Man and the goons. Hasbro said they can’t confirm or deny that any of it will see the light of day.
13) Will we see the Jim Lee version of Jean Grey in Legends. Hasbro says it’s on their radar.
14) Hasbro says they’re going to conduct a Marvel Legends fan poll in conjunction with ToyFare. The details should be in the September issue. The winner of the poll will get a figure in Legends.
15) I asked about more Inhumans after Black Bolt. Yes, there will be. Hasbro knows that collectors like complete teams because that’s how we like to display them on our shelves (Hence the Jim Lee era Jean Grey getting a figure).

I think that’s it. If I remember anything else, I’ll post it.

Mike
(Should be some cool DCD and Mattel news tomorrow! Stay tuned for pics and reports!)

The Hasbro Marvel Panel is happening at this very minute and our man Julius Marx is there taking notes. Keep checking as we’ll be adding to this report as the panel continues.
Among the nuggets of info to come out of the Q&A sessions so far:

Hasbro doesn’t have a lap top so they are starting with Q&A…
They are "open to all characters" in the Marvel Universe.
Q: Any Software figures done 6" Legends style?  (Smattering of applause.)   Trying out the Marvel Unleashed 360.  (semi poseable).
Q: Will you re-release old hard to find Toy Biz?  Possibly.  They have been reading the boards about that.
New Dr. Doom in 6" FF wave has a removable mask.
Q: How about Marvel Transfomers?  Maybe?  Is that of interest to fans?
Q: Will Hasbro release tail end stuff that Toybiz didn’t release? Xbabies?  Frog of thunder? Thugs?    Maybe. Still looking at that.
Q: Can there be larger build-a-figures?  It would take more figures in the assortment.  The croud is OK with that.  People don’t want needed pieces with variants.
Can’t talk about Hulk2 movie or Iron Man product yet.
Only talking about 2007 stuff at SDCC.

Lines announced for 2007:

ML Fantastic Four- Mr. Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch, The Thing, Dr. Doom, Mole Man, Namor (w/speedo!), Silver Surfer and Build-A-Figure Ronin.

ML Spider-Man 3- Spider-Man, Black Spider-Man, Venom, Sandman, Mary Jane, New Goblin and Build-A-Figure Transforming Sandman

ML Wave 4- Nova, Tigra, Bradstreet Punisher, Yellow Daredevil, Black Bolt, Astonishing X-Men Beast and Build-A-Figure Nemesis.

Super Hero Squad- Iceman, Pyro, Ant Man, Asgard Thor, Gambit, Rogue, Dr. Strange, Loki, Annihilus, Black Panther, Ultimate Captain America, Ult. Nick Fury, Human Torch, Storm, Casual Wolverine & Bike, Beast, Ult. Giant Man.
