DST KirkDiamond Select Toys are very excited to announce the relaunch of a classic toy property in its original, legendary form with the Retro Cloth Star Trek figures hitting shelves this summer!

Teaming up with the Emce Toys brand of genre marketing company SphereWerx, DST is releasing six classic Star Trek figures throughout 2007.  These figures are painstaking reproductions of the sculpts, costumes, accessories and packaging of the original 1970s toys created by legendary company MEGO Corp.

DST Classic Klingon In 1974, MEGO released their eight-inch cloth figures to phenomenal fan response, expanding the line to include two series of Star Trek aliens, electronic toys and playsets –seemingly, an entire generation of fans had their very own “U.S.S. Enterprise Bridge” at some point.  The line ended in 1979 and MEGO itself closed its doors in 1982, leading to a sky-rocketing in the value of these prized collectibles.

Aficionados will be pleased to know that development of the figures are being overseen by renowned line expert Paul “Dr. Mego” Clarke and bear the approval of Marty Abrams, founder of MEGO and father of the modern action figure.

Available June of 2007, the first Star Trek figures in this classic style in more than twenty-five years will be Captain James T. Kirk and a Klingon – each available for $17.99.  Just as with their original releases, both will feature traditional articulation, cloth uniforms and plastic accessories – and even use the same molds used to create the iconic toys!

You can talk about these in our Diamond Select forum or over at the Mego Museum message boards
