For the past couple of years, right around the holidays, Mattel headquarters here in Southern California opens a big holiday clearance tent sale in the parking lot behind their campus. They have a retail store on site too and also open a few regional stores for the month of December, but the tent sale really deals in bulk.
Last year I picked up 20-30 Cars from Pixar’s Cars to fill out my loose set. They were $1.00each, spread out in 2 giant bins… and it was a MADHOUSE scramble of people trying to find each different one they had! Another item of interest was TMX Elmo. They had several pallets of those for really cheap. The only catch? They all spoke Spanish!
I stopped by during my lunch break this week to see if there was anything interesting, and this was the first thing that greeted me when I walked in the doors:

The stack in the picture above is on top of four pallets pushed together. There were three of these four pallet stacks in the tent. The only figures in the stacks: The Demon, Red Tornado, and Penguin. They were $3.99 each.
So, the next time you think wave one of DCUC is clogging up the pegs in your local store… it could be a LOT worse!

I wopuld welcome thet stack at the local toy stores as there is no DCUC to be found in a hundred mile radius where I live.Target has a empty peg but never has product.I have lucked out a few times at discount chains and found Variant Deathstroke,Green Lantern ,And Nightwing for $5.00 each.
yep, St Louis county is empty of all DCUC at the moment.
i have never seen a dc figure other then wave 1. i want these figures, too bad i’ll never get the chance to give mattel any of my money. guess i’ll go buy some well stocked transformers and g.i.joe’s. i just don’t understand why this company has so many problems getting it’s product to consumers.
Whoever is in charge of distribution at Mattel should be FIRED! They go overboard flooding the market with DCUC Wave 1 to the extent that they aren’t even that valuable… yet the distribution of Waves 2-4 (as well as the Walmart exclusive Wave 5) is sketchy at best. Heads should roll!
It’s so frustrating. I’d buy pretty much any series that wasn’t Wave 1, but the only store in town that carries them is Toys R Us, and because they couldn’t sell the truckload of Wave 1 they got in the first time, they refuse to order the new waves. I even had them look it up on the computer, and it said they had been discontinued at the store. Arrrgh.
I’ve been fortunate out here in the Metro Phoenix area. I’ve seen all five waves at one point or another (only Artemis eludes me), but I agree Wave One seems to have been produces at abount a 10:1 ratio compared to the other waves.
Ha! Try living in the UK! You’ll NEVER see these things in the wild. The only choice is to import via ebay at lunatic prices.
