I walk into my local Target store and what do I see? Secret Wars and "Super Powers" figures right next to each other on the shelf! What an awesome time to be a collector!
(Yes, I know Secret Wars only ran from 1984-1985, but Super Powers ran from 1984-86 and "Shazam" was a 3rd series figure for SP so I figured there’d still be plenty of SW figures on store shelves in 1986. I just thought it was funny to walk in and see two "Super Powers" characters right next to the new Secret Wars figures.)

Very awesome time indeed!
WOW! how come my Target’s & Wal-Marts toy aisles don’t look like this??
could not agree more for seeing the secret wars packs by the dcclassic is like the target there is in a time warp.
I totally agree. I have never had so many choices with such little cash since the late 80′s with transformers, star wars, super powers, and secret wars. Oh, and least not forget zoids by tony. Only now I have 5 kids , a mortgage, tuitions, utility bills and what ever else adults have. It sucks on having to pass on some really cool stuff. I made a deal with myself that if I had to charge it I wouldn’t buy it. So far it’s working but I feel the darkside growing stronger…:)
Ouch, $13.09 each? My local Fred Meyer sells the DCUC for 9.99, with frequent 10-30% off toys markdowns….’course my Target doesn’t look anything like that as the same Firestorm, BlManta, and Fabio Aquaman have been sitting on the shelf for almost a year.
It’s even more bleak at Walmart (all 5 of them- no DCUC at all)…..
1986…..yes I remember totally disregarding Secret Wars in favor of the much superior Super Powers line. Ironic too that back then Secret Wars was by Mattel and Super Powers by Kenner (Hasbro), and now they’ve reversed. Viva la Retro!
I want my government subsidized action figure bailout, or alternatively, a cash-for-clunkers style program that will give me a discount when I trade in my shitty old DC Direct figures for their far prettier and more articulated DCU Classics counterparts.
I’d vote for that!
Now just to have late 1980s prices back.
Well, considering I was never able to find Captain Marvel! (…and had to pretend Cyclotron was Cyborg!) Then you are absolutely positively right. It is like 1986! (That is, if you are a JLU collector.)
Dammit, I hated 1986! Why didn’t Al Gore invent E-bay and the internet back then!
I guess that’s one of the “perks” of California life, you get to pay more for certain items than everyone else does.
My Target’s DCUC went from 10.99 to 11.89, WM has them for 12.97 now that they finally have them. I think they have the MU-SW 2pks for 12.97, too. I don’t recall seeing any when I ran into StL yesterday.
.
at least you found a ParaDemon. Yesterday, I found 2 G.Ghosts at one Target, passed without any others to be had, and then Adam and Guardian at a TRU, which neither really impressed me enough to buy them without the rest of the wave. Maybe because they were simply new heads on re-used bodies? These were the first DCUC 8-9 I have seen, btw.
If only they were ALL 3 3/4″ scale.
See, this is an impossible occurrence where I live, because my local Target has a special rule that all new DCUC must be delivered to ebay immediately upon arriving at the store. They have a special staff of twentysomething associates who make sure that this happens no matter what.
This is so true BUt it’s not just super powers and secret wars! I walked into toys r us and saw the ORIGINAL GI JOE Packaged figures, ORIGINAL He-Man Figures, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Star Wars, and the Secret Wars and DC Figures as well. THAT took me WAYYYYY back to being a kid, seeing the actual packaging that the toys we bought in the 80′s was in. It’s funny how history repeats itself.
