Mattel 2014 Subscription Update – MOTUC Fully Funds, DCSC And Ecto – 1 Do Not Appear To Have
August 20, 2013

We are waiting for an official statement from Mattel that should be coming soon, but the meters for all 3 of the 2014 Mattel subscriptions were just updated on the website.

MOTUC Club Eternia funded fully at 115% and will move forward and continue in 2014.   DC Club Infinite Earths and the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 look to have not fully funded with their updated numbers coming in at 63% and 38% respectively.

It is unknown at this time what that means for the 4 Q1 DC figures… or DC 6″ figures at all.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post,,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

Hoping that Mattel does something for those of us who did sub-in to DCIE for the last two years and re-upped again this year . . . at least some sort of early access to any of the figures that they do decide to sell, so that we can get first shot at them before the scalpers and big toy stores come in and wipe out stock.

So dissappointed this line is (probably) not going on . . . the best DC line of toys since Super Powers and it even exceeded that in terms of depth and scope. Truly, this will probably be the most comprehensive DC toy line to ever be made . . .Man, I really wanted one (or both) of those Doomsdays.

Very sad about DC’s sub not going through. I have been fortunate not to have experienced any of the problems that others have complained of – my figures have all been pretty good quality, and they have mostly been characters I have been interested in with only one or two notable exceptions. Now the line is ending, and with it, my hopes of getting a 4-Horsemen Mera, Vixen, Gypsy (a longshot at best, I know), Jericho, Aqualad, etc. to go along with my collection. Again, very sad.

I suffered thru a year of crappy service with DR, BUT still opted to subscribe for the 2014 subscription. Becase:

    a) as a hardcore DC fan I wanted to support the DC line
    b) I wanted to hopefully get more JSA characters, more Flash rogues, etc

They SHOULD do something for those of us that signed up.

Keep in mind that the sub in its first year ended at roughly 60-62%. So just because we didn’t reach 100% this time does not absolutely mean that the sub will not continue. Granted, the fact that we came in so low for 2012 might have reduced the amount of leeway we have this year. At least we received of 100% last year.

Anyway, now it’s just a waiting game to see what Mattel says.

Well, it was fun while it lasted.

  • Ryan says:

Ecto-1 was doomed from the start. Mattel has alienated Ghostbusters fans so bad at this point and the $215 price tag for what would’ve undoubtedly been a cheap plastic car was laughable.

figured motu would manage to go through since that is the line that put mattel in the action figure aile to really be a big boy. the ghost buster sub sad to say not surprised for really ghost buster was more a nostaliga thing and had its limits of what could be done. dcu sad to see it not go through for loved what the four horseman was doing with the dcu. for thought that doomsday would be what kept it alive. hope mattel finds some way to still get the figures they have made and shown out the least they can do for sub buyers
