October 8, 2015

Today at New York Comic Con, Mattel debuted three new 6″ action figures as part of their DC Multiverse Re-Launch.  These 3 figures are from Frank Miller’s innovative Batman: The Dark Knight Returns series from the 1980s.    The wave will be exclusive to Walmart and will feature Batman (repainted version of the Batman Classics figure), Superman and Son of Batman (new head on repainted Guy Gardner body).

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

Wow! These suck sooooo bad, thank God it is walfart exclusive. Way to relaunch a brand buy releasing fugly repaints.

  • Preston says:

Hard to believe Mattel is even attempting these kinds of figures when DC Collectables puts out the same figures that are a 100 times better than Mattel. Mattel needs to cease and desist.

  • Mark Myers says:

Reuse much? A Guy Gardner repaint? I’ll get one only so I can make a Sinestro ring bearing Guy figure.

what is sad is legions of fans have given Mattel advice on so much, yet they keep making the same mistakes. They have met the requirements for the definition of crazy. They could have had a hit like MU/MI and now ML 3.75″ If they used thier multiverse 3.75″ platform they could really put out some cool DC figs but at the current price, i say no way. Even with a few tweaks their inifnite heroes line could have done better. Even their Thundercat figures are being oompa loomped into the he-man style bodies and it does not work.

PLEASE, BRING BACK DC UNIVERSE CLASSICS LINE!

  • Miguel says:

Son of Batman is perfect to make a custom Guy Gardner with yellow ring.

  • Eric says:

Check the Fwoosh forum for DC multiverse 6 inch. Looks like there will be an additional 3 figures for this line; DKR Robin, Armored Batman, and Mutant Leader. They were listed originally on the Diamond toy site, Toychestnews.

  • Dake says:

Found these at a Houston Walmart today. The Batman’s not bad – it seems like it’s on a He-man buck?
