Mattel JLU at SDCC 2010 – A Round of Applause
July 24, 2010

Dear Mattel,

I just wanted to say Thank You for the JLU line.  Not only is it continuing, but with the figures shown coming at SDCC 2010, you have given us almost all of our highly requested figures.  We’ve run a number of JLU Most Wanted polls at AFi.  Each year you hit a few of them at each show.  This show outdid that.  You hit almost all of them.  Plus you hit a number of Justice League related characters that were not on the show.  Many characters from the Justice Society were included in the JLU.  Here we get 3 classics who were left off the show.  And finally, you continued the program of offering us a second chance to get figures that were hard to find in previous releases.

"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Great blog! Now time for a new poll because Mattel blew up the wish lists!

  • gin says:

Awesome job Matty………Mattel has hit a homerun this year

  • Daikins says:

The only thing about JLU is the nagging hole that is Volcana. It’s the only figure missing that sticks my collection in the past and doesn’t allow me to move forward. I wish Mattel would just step up and make this figure available so that I (and many others) could finally be caught up…
Ohter then that, they have my money if I can find them. 🙂

  • Casimir says:

So long as these actually make it to retailers or e-tailers…. Then I’ll whole-heartedly agree with your sentiment, SF.

  • Howard the Duck says:

First Chip, then your blog. Great stuff! This truly is a great day for JLU. But, I have to bring up the lack of Volcana! It ‘burns’ me up…har de har har.

  • Neil says:

i love lots of the new figures. great to see JLI and JSA getting love. but can we please get a gypsy figure some day. she’s about the only “real” JLA member that hasn’t been done in JLU format

  • Darren says:

This was the one panel I attended – mostly because the others were insane-o lineups, but what a great surprise. So many great figures, I salute Mattel for giving the fans what they want!

and yes, I asked about Dr. Midnite, but all he could say was ‘it’s possible’.

  • Rick says:

i agree with casimir. 7 new 3 packs from now till dec with pegs overflowing with older packs spells disaster for me. Singles also clogging the retail channel in my area. I guess we can hope for the best.

  • Joe B says:

A round of applause to Mattel they deserve it??? bwa ha ha NO THEY DON’T!
no answer about why Volcana was not shown! No answer on the leaked Firefly or the Doctor Destiny except to say they do not wxist at this time and will not exist untill we say so and reveal them and you see them in a Target store. so in other words if we don’t tell you it’s official and it’s coming in a singlr or a 3 pack you can forget about it! so no I will not give Mattel a round of applause.
