Mattel Shows Mock-Up of Proposed Ecto-1
August 6, 2013

Last week Mattel posted some images of a foamcore scale mock up of what fans will be getting if the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 presale goes through.   As you can see this vehicle will be significantly larger than the recently released 1966 Batmobile.  The pictures were a little dark so we lightened them up.

Product Features

(All details are subject to change, as this item is still in development.)

  • For the first time ever, the Ecto-1 is in scale to our 6” Ghostbusters™ figures so you can recreate scenes from the iconic first movie.
  • This Ecto-1 will feature a pull-out rack for storing the removable proton packs that come with the new 6” Peter and Ray figures (sold separately).
  • The headlights of the Ecto-1 will flash and the beacon will light up with both blue and red lights.
  • The doors and trunk of the Ecto-1 will actually open so you can get your 6” figures and their gear inside!
  • The authentic Ecto-1 signature ambulance siren lets bystanders know the Ecto-1 is coming.
  • This Movie Masters® Epic Creations™ vehicle is made of highly detailed, hard plastic, with authentic Cadillac logos.
  • The Ecto-1 features engine revving sounds recreated to sound just like in the film!
  • This vehicle rolls on wheels to get around town fast… go get those ghosties!
  • Ideally the vehicle will include everything shown in the Ecto-1 “B sheet” to the left, but please remember this isn’t final.

This just in… the entire Eastern Seaboard is alive with talk of incidents of paranormal activity! Who you gonna call? The Ghostbusters™, of course. And how are they gonna get there? The Ecto-1!

When Peter, Ray, and the team head out to eliminate ectoplasm, they rev up their 1959 Cadillac professional ambulance and take off with lights flashing and siren blazing. Now, for the first time in scale to 6” Ghostbusters™ figures, this highly detailed Ecto-1 is available for pre-order! Peter and Ray can finally ride along because this Movie Masters® Epic Creations™ Ecto-1 is scaled just for them. There have been other Ecto-1 vehicles, but never one that could actually fit your 6” figures, while also featuring as many amazing details straight from the film. Created hand-in-hand with Sony, this vehicle has the honor of being the flagship product in the all-new Epic Creations™ line, giving you the most authentic Ecto-1 experience possible.

You may not be the Keymaster… but you are the key to production of this Ecto-1. In order for it move forward, we need to hit a minimum pre-order goal by August 19, 2013, at 11:59pm PT. Once you place your order, keep checking the Ecto-1 thermometer right here to see how it’s going throughout the pre-order period. What happens if the pre-order goal for the production for the Ecto-1 is not met? Forty years of darkness? Earthquakes, volcanoes? No… but this vehicle will not be produced!

If the minimum pre-order goal is met, we’ll also produce new 6” Ray Stantz and Peter Venkman figures, each with a proton stream, removable proton pack and “No Ghost” base! (Figures sold separately.) And if all that’s not enough, if we make the minimum pre-order goal and production moves forward, everyone who pre-orders will receive an exclusive poster of the Ecto-1 schematic! Now that’s an offer even Gozer would love.

Ordering Information

  • The Ecto-1 vehicle will only be produced if the minimum pre-order goal is reached by August 19, 2013 at 11:59pm. If the minimum pre-order goal is reached by August 19, 2013, pre-orders will continue to be taken through November 5, 2013 at 11:59 p.m. PT..
  • If production goes ahead, everyone who pre-orders is guaranteed to receive the Ecto-1 vehicle and the exclusive pre-order bonus poster of the Ecto-1 schematic. Some vehicles will be available on MattyCollector.com after pre-orders are fulfilled, but the price will be higher and you won’t be guaranteed to get one. If you want one, a pre-order is the best way to ensure you get it.
  • When you place your pre-order, the card you used will be “pre-authorized” for a zero dollar amount. This pre-authorization simply verifies that the card is valid. You will NOT be charged until the item ships, at which time you’ll be billed for the product, shipping costs, and any taxes/fees.
  • Please note that because this item is so large, shipping charges will be substantially higher than items we normally sell.
  • This item is scheduled for fall 2014 shipment. We’ll send an email reminder about a month before the product is scheduled to ship. If you need to change your address or credit card information at that time, you’ll have plenty of notice.

A final note… this is a work-in-progress and features may be added or removed from the proposed design, so we can’t confirm anything now. We’re seriously as excited as you are by the prospect of finally having an Ecto-1 vehicle that will give Peter and Ray the ride of their lives, and Mattel will do everything to ensure we deliver as much value as possible!

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

    $215 + S/H? I don’t think so. The ’66 Batmobile was $50.

  • Darren D says:

As a toy fan from the U.K. the Mattel ghostbusters line fills me with confusion.
I saw the figure (pics of) at a comic con a few years ago, thought they looked great and I’d grab ‘em when they came out.
Then I see it’s some odd collectors club thing where you…well I’ve no idea how you get the figures over here, all I know is the prices on Ebay are ridiculous for what they are.
Well I just chalked them off my list and ignored all future releases. Then I see they’r doing ’66 Batman figures and assume it’s the same deal so I ignore those too.
Then the Batman figures appear freely available, what’s the big difference? Is ’66 batman more popular than the G-boys? I mean, Batman in general of course, but the ’66 niche is surely for collectors or nostalgia fans like me? Kinda like a ghostbusters line?
Despite all this I might have bought into this now, interest resparked by the car, hoping just for the main guys and the car (I’m no completist, just love the films) but I just went to look and it seems the ‘essentials’ which are freely available (even to those poor schmos that don’t want to sign up to some club and mindlessly buy up every toy they see fit to churn out) only consists of Ray and Pete. So sod it.
If they were to repack the 4 fellas in a bundle as an option I’d be in, even at that price.

I wouldn’t mind a Real Ghostbusters line based on the classic cartoon.

    • Darren D says:

The vintage Real Ghostbusters toys hold up pretty well considering how old they are, and are easy to find for a decent price on ebay. The scared face Venkman is genius!

  • Darren D says:

nuts, looks like this didn’t make the quota. Thats depressing as in the meantime, I bought up a few of the boys and I’m bowled over by the quality, they’re really cool. In the reviews I’d seen, the pics didn’t do them justice.
Can’t help feeling if they were more widely available then more people would have bought into the car. I only stumbled across the news of it by chance. I’m sure most people don’t even have a clue what Mattey collector is.
Ah well, on the plus side, this boosted my interest enough to buy into the line, and I’m very glad I did.
