Amazing Heroes Wave 1.5 launches on Kickstarter with help from Erik Larsen,Tim Seeley, Michael Allred, Gene Yang and more….

Los Angeles, CA. (November 18, 2014)  – Amazing Heroes, the retro superhero action figure line successfully funded by Fresh Monkey Fiction, announces a secondary Kickstarter campaign to raise money for original stretch goal figures Silver Streak and Champion of Mars—with an added stretch goal figure of Michael Allred’s signature hero Madman. The campaign is now LIVE on Kickstarter, and runs until December 21st.

Thanks to the support of our original backers,  Amazing Heroes Wave 1 resulted in a trip to the factory, it will only cost an additional $15,000 to fund both Silver Streak and Champion of Mars. For an additional $10,000, backers can fund an official action figure of Madman in the Amazing Heroes style. Wave 1.5 presents a chance for those who missed out on pledging for the original figures—Black Terror, Captain Action, Green Turtle, the Golden Age Dare-Devil, Stardust the Super-Wizard, and the Blank Slate custom figure—to not only pledge for them, but to also purchase exclusive Artist Edition packaging.

Each character’s card will be drawn by an established creator, and will feature an original four-panel comic strip on back.

  • Image co-founder Erik Larsen (Savage Dragon) is drawing Stardust.
  • Tim Seeley (Hack/Slash,Grayson) is drawing Silver Streak.
  • Michael Allred (Silver Surfer, Madman) is on the Golden Age Dare-Devil.
  • Reilly Brown (Lobo, Deadpool) handles Champion of Mars.
  • Tom Fowler (Howtoons [Re]Ignition) takes on Black Terror.
  • Sonny Liew (The Shadow Hero) is drawing Green Turtle (with a comic script by his partner on the Shadow Hero graphic novel, Gene Yang).
  • Phil Hester (Green Arrow, Flash: Season Zero) is drawing Captain Action.

Scripts (save for Green Turtle) are by Christopher Irving (Graphic NYC, Leaping Tall Buildings: The Origins of American Comics).  These artists’ cards will be offered in a signed limited edition, both individually and in a set.

“To get this small army of big talent is exciting,” Irving says. “To get to write for them is—well, a dream come true.”

The Amazing Heroes Wave 1.5 Kickstarter campaign hopes to fund these figures for a summer 2015 release, along with the previously-funded Wave 1.

The Amazing Heroes Wave 1.5 Kickstarter launches today, with a goal of $15,000.00.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
