Pre-TF2012: Marvel Universe
February 3, 2012

One of my favorite lines going right now is Hasbro’s Marvel Universe. Marvel characters in my favorite scale. Doesn’t get much better than that.

So, it is with great anticipation that I look forward to what David Vonner and the rest of the intrepid Marvel Universe team is going to unveil at Toy Fair 2012. I’m trying to manage expectations, ‘though. If memory serves, there hasn’t been very much shown at Toy Fair the past couple of years, with a much bigger splash coming in the summer at Comic Con. However, there’s bound to be a few surprises. But, what? There’s not much left on my original Top 11 list originally posted back in 2009:

1. Cable
2. Apocalypse
3. Nighthawk
4. Man-Thing
5. Planet Hulk
6. Nova
7. Doctor Strange
8. Captain Marvel
9. High Evolutionary
10. Bug from Micronauts.
11. Stegron the Dinosaur Man

So far we’ve gotten Cable, Apocalypse, Doctor Strange and Captain Marvel. Nova and Nighthawk are both on the way this year. So that leaves Man-Thing, Planet Hulk (we got close with World War Hulk, but I want the helmet and shield version, too!), High Evolutionary, Bug and Stegron.

Beyond, those…wow. I don’t even know where to go or who to hope for. I’m more partial to character’s classic looks (like the recent Iron Fist/Power Man 2 pack…awesome!). I am hoping we’ll see a classic Nova at some point. The modern one is extremely cool, but Richard Ryder’s classic costume is what is near and dear to my heart. Nova #1 was my first comic that I started with the first issue.

And, I’ll take as many Thor variants as they’ll throw at us (to make up for a lack of a Thor movie line Comic Series). I’d love the Simsonson armored Thor, and the Lord of Asgard Thor most of all.

There’s so much they can do. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2012 and Marvel Universe!

I think you’re gonna have to live with the WW Hulk.

I can’t imagine getting another Hulk that similiar any time soon.

  • Joe Acevedo says:

I had hopes that Mattel would also announce more 3.75″ – 4″ figures for DC Comics at Toy Fair 2012, however based on recent answers to this topic, they have nothing in the works right now.

It would be a miracle if DC Direct decided to do a line in that scale. They have already revealed their 2012 product catalog, so it would be a surprise if they did something in the smaller scale.

Nova frankie ray, War machine, Black cat, Bishop, Electra, Kingpin, Storm and rouge jim lee version, pyro, Omega red, Rescue pepper potts armor.

  • HMRC4EVR says:

Well, I actually got Darkhawk last year so after picking my jaw up off the floor I really don’t know who to expect to show up next from my own personal ‘gotta get list’.

Who I’d LIKE to see are:

Thunderstrike (Eric Masterson and Kevin Masterston limited series version)

YOUNG AVENGERS (well, more of them)

Box set of core Avengers Academy!

Box set of first incarnation of New Warriors

Quasar (final costume in the series)

    Jack of Hearts

Circuit Breaker (since we’ll never get a full set of ..)

    Cloak and Dagger

    J2 (easy juggernaut repaint)

Dargo (after Thunderstrike so we can finally get a Thor Corps)

and just to be totally retro:

    ROM the Spaceknight!

given how i finaly got a hold of dark hawk and also have thanos and doctor strange. really not much hasbro can suprise me with marvel u wise. except maybe besides a new warriors box set so i can get another chance at firestar. and power pack and kingpin and red she hulk . the only big surprise to me with mu now would be cloak and dagger. rom and any mirconauts not going to ever happen for marvel does not own the rights to rom or micro nauts except like bug the ones they own the rights too.

Jack of Hearts and Stingray would complete my “Big Three B-Listers” once Nighthawk is out. I would love a classic Nova as well. Give me anyone from the 70’s to early 80’s who appeared in the first Marvel Universe Handbook. The various international superheroes which Bill Mantlo created for his Hulk and Contest of Champions series (Arabian Knight, Le Peregrine) would make me die relatively content, I would say.

  • Great white says:

I second or third or whatever… BUG!! Use the Nightcrawler body to make a classic Micronauts Bug…THAT would be awesome

  • Calum Mac says:

Now that I’ve got the fantastic looking Cable and Apocalypse I’m happy but it’ll be fun seeing whats coming up.
