ReAction: Escape From New York

In 1988, the crime rate in the United States rises four hundred percent. The once great city of New York becomes the one maximum security prison for the entire country. A fifty-foot containment wall is erected along the New Jersey shoreline, across the Harlem River, and down along the Brooklyn shoreline. It completely surrounds Manhattan Island. All bridges and waterways are mined. The United States Police Force, like an army, is encamped around the island. There are no guards inside the prison, only prisoners and the worlds they have made. The rules are simple: once you go in, you don’t come out.

But wait…The President of the United States has been involved in a plane crash that has left him in the treacherous prison!
This sounds like a job for…

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

So, even a collector aimed product like Re-Action isn’t going to put the girls in the line? I would have thought that Funko’s relationship with WBCP would allow them to use the proper “S” on Sloth’s t-shirt, after all it would be clear that it wasn’t a Superman figure. Even without, I’ve seen Goonies merchandise that uses a scrawled “S” in it’s place, why not that if WB wouldn’t allow the real thing?

hopefuly the ladies are saved for wave 2 or three should the first wave do well. plus think these are just pics of the prototypes so maybe the final sloth figure will have the s on his shirt. plus also missing is mickey big brother too.

I’m glad they didn’t attempt any kind of artificial “S” on Sloth. An actual Kenner figure likely wouldn’t have had it, either (even if they did have the DC license back then).

My enthusiasm for the ReAction has cooled substantially now that I’ve seen all the protos. The Goonies, however, are near perfect, though I’d have liked Mikey to be sporting the same color jeans and jacket.

Bring on Wave 2! I could see it being Andy, Stef and the Fratellis. Perhaps a raincoat Mikey or Brand.

I just can’t get behind the cheesy sculpts and lack of articulation. I think realistic figs would be much cooler!
