Round 2 Enlists Joe Jusko for Classic Toy’s Return
June 9, 2011

Round 2, LLC and Captain Action Enterprises are pleased to announce that Joe Jusko will be developing the new packaging illustration for the new Captain Action® toy line.

The new toys produced by Round 2, LLC are scheduled to debut in October 2011. The first release will include a new Captain Action figure and costume sets for Marvel Comics heroes Captain America™ and Spider-Man®. Subsequent releases will include classic characters such as The Mighty Thor™, Iron Man™, the Red Skull™ and Loki™.

In order to maintain the authentic comic book feel of the packaging, Joe Jusko was recruited to develop the new illustration for the lead character, Captain Action. Jusko has produced covers for just about every publisher over a 35-year career. He is currently the cover artist on Dynamite’s Warlord of Mars series. The Captain Action team was surprised to find that Jusko also was a Captain Action fan as a young boy back in the 1960’s.

“As a kid, my all time favorite toy was Captain Action!" said Jusko. “One Christmas I told everyone I wanted the same thing and eventually ended up with every available costume and a figure for each! I just loved these action figures and I’m just so excited to be contributing my art to the re-launch of such a classic 60’s icon. Bring on Dr. Eville!!”

Captain Action was a popular 12-inch action figure line in the late sixties and influenced a generation. The charm of the toy was its ability to change costumes to transform Captain Action into a number of well-known comic book and pop culture characters. Vintage costume sets currently sell at a premium on the collector market.

The new Captain Action toy line will debut at New York Comic Con, which runs October 13-16, 2011, and will be available nationwide in October. An exclusive edition of the Captain Action figure, featuring a bonus comic book, will be available at Toys R Us stores.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
