SDCC 2005 Exclusives List
June 2, 2005


It’s become popular in recent years for most companies to offer some sort of exclusive product at the San Diego Comic Con International and this year looks to be the biggest yet! Below is a list of con exclusive product. Some of these you can pre-order on line, but most you will have to pick up in person at the con. A huge thanks to Ryan "Superfly" Prast for compiling this list! We’ll be updating it as the con gets closer. For larger images follow the title links to the company websites.




•Three 1:18 scale P-51D Mustang will be uniquely hand-painted and given away in a drawing during the 2005 San Diego Comic?]Con. One of the three planes will feature original art of 50’s fashioned pin-up girl.

• Available for sale will be a limited run of an authentic 1:18 scale WWII aircraft, painstakingly recreating the plane a famous Fighter Ace flew during WWII. Come see our booth to find out who it is!


• Marvel Minimates: Thanos and Silver Surfer Mini-Mate 2-Pack – The "Mad God" of Titan will debut at the San Diego Comic-Con packed with a former AFX exclusive: Silver Surfer. This item will be sold first at San Diego Comic-Con 2005 (July 13-17) and then online on Monday, July 18, 2005.

• Marvel Minimates: Dark Phoenix and Cyclops Set – From the classic "Dark Phoenix" storyline, Diamond Select Toys, at long last, presents the Dark Phoenix/Cyclops Minimates two-pack! This item will be sold first at San Diego Comic-Con 2005 (July 13-17) and then online on Monday, July 18, 2005.

• Spider-Man: House of M Previews Exclusive Sketch Variant #1: With a limited print run of 5,000, this Variant issue of Spider-Man: House of M #1 sports a new variant cover by Salvador Larroca (with Con logos) and is sure to be one of the hottest items on the show floor! In this issue, Spidey swings into one of Marvel Comics’ biggest events of the year and it could well unravel the reality he knows.

• Marvel Universe Black Queen Bust: While under the control of Mastermind, Jean Grey became the Hellfire Club’s Black Queen. This 6", show exclusive bust from Diamond Select Toys was sculpted by Sam Greenwell, is limited to 1,000 pieces, and brings her to life in all her domineering splendor. Comes with hand-numbered box, base, and Certificate of Authenticity.

• Dark Phoenix/Cyclops MiniMate 2-Pack: From the classic “Dark Phoenix” storyline, Diamond Select Toys and Art Asylum present the Dark Phoenix/Cyclops MiniMates 2-pack! • Bome Kirasaki Sui Previews Exclusive Figure: This new style Bome figure by Kaiyodo is strictly limited to 2,005 pieces and only available at Comic-Con International: San Diego and Wizard World Chicago. The exclusivity is printed on the base and stickered on the blister (with Con logos).

• Metal Gear Solid 3: Cold War Camo Snake Previews Exclusive Kubrick: In the video game Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, this “Cold War” camouflage is a “secret” camo outfit that you have to unlock. This is Medicom’s cool Kubrick version of the camo and the only toy ever with this outfit. It’s strictly limited to 2,005 pieces and only available at Comic-Con International: San Diego and Wizard World Chicago. The exclusivity and Con logos are printed on the “gear box” style package.


• Hellboy Jr. Maquette – Based on designs by Bill Wray and sculpted by Ruben Procopio, this very exclusive mini-maquette will be sold at the San Diego Comic-Con (July 14-17) and through This approximately 6" tall statue will be limited to 500 pieces and will retail for $45.


• Silver Jango Fett Bust-Up – Since Bust-Ups were launched in 2004, they’ve grown quite a following and at San Diego Comic-Con you will be able to add to your collection with the debut of the 2005 Exclusive Silver Jango Fett Bust-Up. During Comic-Con the quantity of Silver Jango Fett Bust-Ups for purchase will be allocated on a per day basis.


• Holographic Princess Leia Comic-Con 2005 Figure w/ Collector Case – The holographic Princess Leia comes packaged on a unique card in the style of the retro Original Trilogy Collection, featuring the Comic-Con logo and scene from A New Hope displayed behind the figure.

Friday, July 15th – EXCLUSIVE SIGNING EVENT – The Batman and Justice League Unlimited

5:30 – 6:30 pm

Fans of Warner Bros. Animation’s The Batman and Justice League Unlimited will not want to miss this exclusive signing event. Come by the Mattel booth to meet the creative talent behind your favorite shows – from The Batman, Jeff Matsuda (producer), Duane Capizzi (producer), Michael Goguen (producer), and Kevin Michael Richardson (voice of the Joker); and from Justice League Unlimited, Bruce Timm (producer), Dwayne McDuffie (producer), James Tucker (producer), Shaun McLaughlin (producer) and Matt Wayne (producer). Saturday, July 16th – EXCLUSIVE SIGNING EVENT – The Batman’s Jeff Matsuda

The producer of The Batman returns to the Mattel booth to meet fans and sign memorabilia. Lucky enough to get one of the convention exclusive Catwoman figures from Mattel’s The Batman action figure line? What a perfect opportunity to have it signed by the producer of the show!

Mattel Comic-Con Exclusives

Using the lottery system employed in years past, Mattel will be offering an assortment of con exclusives to fans from a variety of their popular toy lines.

Lottery System: Raffle tickets will be given out each day to every Comic-Con attendee that visits the Mattel booth who has not yet had the opportunity to buy a figure. The raffle tickets will be distributed at the Mattel booth from 10 am to 1 pm each day. One ticket will be given out per Comic-Con badge. At 2 pm, the winning numbers will be drawn, announced and posted at the booth. You do not need to be present at the drawing – simply visit the booth and check the numbers before the close of the conference hall. If you have a winning number, you have the right to purchase ONE of EACH Mattel Comic-Con exclusive figures. Once you’ve had the opportunity to purchase figures, you will no longer have the right to purchase any more.

• Hooded Rohirrim Soldier Bust – The soldiers of Rohan, all trained riders, maintain vigilant patrols on their land in such dangerous times as those preceding the War of the Ring, and valiantly come to the aid of Gondor when attacked by Sauron’s forces. The SDCC Exclusive Hooded Rohirrim Soldier Bust is limited to only 1000 pieces.

• Little Apple Doll Exclusive 2-Pack – Sporting articulated bodies and “maid” outfits which represent the opposite of each other, Creo and Pestis (meaning create and destroy respectively) are an intriguing duo whose background is revealed for the first time within the exclusive picture and story book contained in the packaging.

Little Apple Dolls stand around 13” tall and are dressed in cloth costumes. Each doll is packed with her own “Little Apple” complete with metal pins. A maximum of 2500 will be made available worldwide and will debut at San Diego Comic Con on July 14th.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
