Something We've Probably All Done
January 7, 2009

I walked past the computer the other day and heard the following video.  To get the full effect, you would have to only hear the 2nd half, and then look to see a video of Japanese Anime.  I did a double take.  And I started laughing.  The words were just too true.

or perhaps you like this version better

Apparently people make up their own videos for songs like these.  There are dozens for just this one song… For those who can’t hear the video, here are the lyrics:

A used … pink bathrobe
A rare … mint snowglobe
A Smurf … TV tray
I bought on eBay

My house … is filled with this crap
Shows up in bubble wrap
Most every day
What I bought on eBay

Tell me why (I need another pet rock)
Tell me why (I got that Alf alarm clock)
Tell me why (I bid on Shatner’s old toupee)
They had it on eBay

I’ll buy … your knick-knack
Just check … my feedback
"A++!" they all say
They love me on eBay

Gonna buy (a slightly-damaged golf bag)
Gonna buy (some Beanie Babies, new with tag)
(From some guy) I’ve never met in Norway
Found him on eBay

I am the type who is liable to snipe you
With two seconds left to go, whoa
Got Paypal or Visa, what ever’ll please ya
As long as I’ve got the dough

I’ll buy … your tchotchkes
Sell me … your watch, please
I’ll buy (I’ll buy, I’ll buy, I’ll buy …)
I’m highest bidder now

(Junk keeps arriving in the mail)
(From that worldwide garage sale) (Dukes Of Hazard ashtray)
(Hey! A Dukes Of Hazard ashtray)
Oh yeah … (I bought it on eBay)

Wanna buy (a PacMan Fever lunchbox)
Wanna buy (a case of vintage tube socks)
Wanna buy (a Kleenex used by Dr. Dre, Dr. Dre)
(Found it on eBay)

Wanna buy (that Farrah Fawcet poster)
(Pez dispensers and a toaster)
(Don’t know why … the kind of stuff you’d throw away)
(I’ll buy on eBay)

What I bought on eBay-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y-y

Yeah, I buy/get stuff in the mail all the time, and some of it IS from eBay.  In fact, I got two HeroClix in the mail TODAY.  Bubblewrap included.

Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

  • Jim Abell says:

I love that song. I think just about the coolest thing that happened from it was that Al was actually hired by eBay to perform that song at one of their live events — now that’s a great sense of humor!

  • OddJob says:

I’m sure he’ll never get honored in any major fashion, but Weird Al must be one of music’s all time best lyricists. He can parody pretty much any song and do it in a really creative fashion. This song is a good instance of this. Not only does he perfectly nail the Ebay experiance, he does so at the expense of a Backstreet Boys tune.

    He’s quite brilliant.

  • George S. says:

    LOL. Brilliant!

I’ve never bought anything from Ebay but it seems Weird Al just summed everything up perfectly for me. God Bless Weird Al!
