Spy Monkey Armory Series 1
January 26, 2012

The wait is almost over.  The team from Spy Monkey Creations have been teasing fans with silhouettes of their upcoming line of factory produced weapons and accessories for several weeks.  Now the veil of secrecy has been lifted and fans can get their first look at these impressive new sets The Spy Monkey Creations – Armory Series 1.  These amazing new sets will be available starting February 3rd on the official Spy Monkey Creations website.

This is a very difficult feature to shoot pictures for because of the nature of these new designs.  There are literally thousands of combinations you can build with one set, much less all 5 “colorways” or multiple sets with the same color combinations.

Full Set of All 5 Colorways - Armory Series 1

If you picked up the SpyMonkey PowerCon 2011 exclusive, you will have seen the genesis of this project with the snap and play reconfigurablity.  Armory Series 1 takes that concept to a whole new level… several new levels actually.  Having the product factory made as opposed to hand poured resin each time makes all the difference.   All of the pieces fit tight and stay put.  I haven’t found a loose piece yet in my sets.

I thought to start off with it would be easier to show you than tell you so here is a video review that will show you just a few possibilities you can create with these sets, and then you can read all the details on them below.

As I mention in the video these sets are fully compatible with the entire Gylos System catalog including Gylos and The Four Horsemen’s Outer Space Men line AND there are also pieces that make them compatible with Masters of the Universe “plug” figures like Roboto, Trap-Jaw and Hurricane Hordak.  On top of that what you can create will also be compatible with most 6″ figures.
These sets come in sealed polly-bags with 5 weapons pre-assembled and all the extra parts to get you to start building.  The 5 preassembled weapons look similar to previous SMC weapon releases, but these are NOT the weapons you already have.  All of them have improved sculpts and all of them are made up of 4-6 pieces that can be disassembled and used to make all new awesomeness.
Click more for LOTS more pictures and information about these incredible sets.  Plus you can see better pictures of the things I created that were shown in the video.
The Sets are called “Spy Monkey Armory Series 1” and have a total of 42 parts. You read that right 42 parts in each set!  Each set comes with 5 pre-assembled weapons/accessories, including:
1.  Master Blade (6 parts)

2.  Demon Sabre (3 parts)

3.  Falcon Sabre (3 parts)

4.  War Shield (10 parts)

5.  Dominar (12 parts)
plus 8 bonus parts and adaptors!
Available colorways will be:
1.  Empyrean – Red PVC w/ black paint ops and Glitter Clear Smoke ABS

2.  Bloodlust – Black PVC and Clear Red ABS

3.  Doppelganger – Orange PVC and Clear Light Blue ABS

4.  Venom – Dark Purple PVC and Clear Green ABS

5.  Cold Steel – Gunmetal PVC and Silver ABS
Here is a better look at some of the customs combos I created with my sets.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
