Peter Mayhew “Chewbacca” is having both knees replaced in hopes of  rising to his full height of 7’3″

New York, New York, August 29, 2013 – Peter Mayhew, the man who brought to life one of Hollywoods favorite sidekicks, ‘Chewbacca’, is having a unique procedure done to restore his ability to walk. He would like to tell his story in a documentary covering the complex surgery he will undergo and the path to recovery he will follow.  Ultimately we endeavor to get our favorite Wookiee to walk again. Funding for this project is being solicited on as “Standing in the Stars –The Peter Mayhew Story.”
MayhewKickstarter2Peter who is 7’3” was born with a condition called Giantism. Although it helped to get him his renowned role in the Star Wars movies, it has resulted, over the years, in catastrophic damage to his knees. Peter, who is a popular celebrity at Star Wars and Scifi conventions worldwide, has had to attend them over the past few years in a wheelchair. His knees will no longer support him and cause him excruciating pain daily, but there is hope.
His Doctors have gone through a number of revisions in order to build a pair of specially constructed prosthetic knees.  Peter’s knees are over twice the size of a normal knee and require specially made prosthetics. In September he will endure four surgeries in one day, a complex double knee replacement and dual tendon lengthening.
W. Ryan Ziegler, the director of the documentary explained, “ We will be filming Peter at his last convention before the surgery, interviewing him and his celebrity friends from the Star Wars circuit. It will detail Peter’s life and struggles as a giant, at home and in the entertainment world. We will cover the surgeries and follow him through the two months of rehabilitation. Finally, we will film Peter celebrating his recovery with family, friends and fans as the most famous Wookiee walks tall again.”Money from the Kickstarter project will fund the documentary and help with offseting medical costs.
Lets help get a Wookiee to walk again!
Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on,,, Boing-Boing,, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
