Star Wars Toy Fair News From Hasbro
February 13, 2011

Today was the big Hasbro collectors event.   The presentation was over two hours long so there was a lot of information to absorb.  We did our best live Tweeting at the event as they did not allow recording of any kind this year.  Here’s some information from the Tweets as well as some additional fill in information.

Clone Wars has been wildly successful and will continue with new figures such as Asoka, the bounty hunter El-les, and anakin from season 3.  The large vehicle for this year will be from Clone Wars – The Republic Attack ship will be on shelves in Aug. The ship turns into a battle play set.  Cannons pop up and are ready for clone troopers to man them.  In battle playset mode the cockpit pops out and has some additional fold down wings come down and make a smaller attack vehicle.

They will continue the line of small vehicles that come with a single figure.

Vintage line will be continued through 2012.   We will see an additional 35 figs in 2011 from all 6 films as well as expanded universe.  There will also be figures from deleted scenes figs coming out this fall that tie into the Blu-ray.  Other new vintage figures include a new General Lando, rebel blockade trooper, logray, Baris, Dom Vimdin, Dr. Evazon, Nom Anor, Kithaba and Pondo Baba

Hasbro will be celebrating the original working title of Return of the Jedi by releasing 12 figures on Revenge of the Cards.  These will be released in limited quantities at retail.  But if you can’t get the whole set they will have a Comic Con exclusive of all 12 figures in special Death Star II packaging. of the 12 figs Included will be new figures such as Slave Leia, B-wing pilot, Endor Luke, as well as re-releases such as Boba Fett, Wicket, Admiral Akbar and Drink serving R2-D2. Exclusive to this set will be 2 mini figures on mini cards.  The mini-figures will be Salacious Crumb and a Mouse Droid.

The mail in figure for 2011 will be the all white Prototype armor Boba Fett from the original screen test.  He will have a slight pattern to the cape as the original costume cape was a spray painted SW Beach towel.

There will be 6 Blu-ray 4 packs from all 6 movies to help celebrate the blu-ray release. When you put them on a shelf like books the side panel will form one large picture.

There will be 2 Toys R Us exclusive 4-packs of "Endor Pilots."  Each 4-pack has an astro-mech droid.

There will be 2 new Disney star Tours packs.  One has Darth Vader on a floating platform and Bobba Fett.  The other has the luggage droid, a vac-metalize C-3PO.

Galactic Heroes is ending with the current wave.  Hasbro is relaunching their preschool line, in a style they call "pre-cool"  Jedi Force is the new preschool line for Star Wars.  They will come in 2 packs. There will also be some figure and vehicle packs.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
