Super Powers Series 3 = mid-80′s MOTU?
January 18, 2009

Anyone else ever note the similarities between the Super Powers final series and MOTU figures?  I have all my carded SP3 in the same bookcase, and realized this the other day :

Cyborg = Trap Jaw
Plastic Man = Mekaneck
Mr. Miracle = Man-At-Arms (the only one I feel is a reach)
Shazam = King Randor
Golden Pharaoh = Sorceress
Orion = Man-E-Faces
Tyr = Clamp Champ/Fisto
Samurai = Jitsu
Cyclotron = Sy-clone
Mr. Freeze = Rio-Blast

Whaddaya think?

    Any pictures?

    I think he means powers/functions more than looks.

    And that is pretty weird. Maybe Kenner was looking over Mattel’s shoulder at that point? We know the SP action features were in response to He-Man.

    Good catch!

    Oh ok. Nevermind then. I know nothing about MOTU

    I think you should leave that stuff alone. Did’nt your parents tell you it would rot your brain.But,no you would’nt listen would you.

    I’m not seeing the Shazam!/King Randor connection.

    I think your grasping at straws.

    I could see some Chip. I’m a big fan of both and if I had the $$$ I’d be getting all of the new lines. Regardless…I have some differences in opinion. The rest I think you did a good job on.

    Cyborg = ROBOTO

    Mr. Miracle = Man-At-Arms (the only one I feel is a reach)<<Agreed. I can’t come up with anyone whose function/power was to break/get out traps.

    Shazam = HE-MAN (boy turns into super-man)
    Orion = Man-E-Faces <<<YES! Total agreement!
    Tyr = TRAP JAW…The big robot arm…not just the fist.
