@Target Prepares for #ForceFridayCountdown By Removing Almost ALL Star Wars Product from Shelves
August 7, 2015

My local Target store have done their late Summer toy aisle reset this past week and the most surprising thing in the new plan-o-gram is there is no more section for Star Wars toys.  From December 2014 to last week this is what the Star Wars section of my local Target in So Cal looked like:

Today when I go in and it’s ALL GONE.

There are still some Star Wars items scattered around such as the Lego aisle and the newly released Play-Skool Galactic Heroes pre-school line…

I even found some of the recent Mattel SW Hot Wheels vehicles in the clearance aisle, but ALL of the 6″ Star Wars Black (Slave Leia and Greedo leftovers) the SW Black 3.75″ figures, the Jakks oversized figures, all the SW Rebels ships and masks and ALL of that SW Command Army Man sets are all GONE.

Not on clearance… GONE.

Even the impressive cardboard SW header over that section… gone.

Is it all back in the stock room?   Are there still piles of Leias and Greedos laying in wait for me that will clog the pegs again?

I don’t know.  There’s half an aisle across from the TMNT stuff that is mostly clearance items now that I suspect will be transformed on September 4th.

How about the rest of you insiders?  Are you seeing the same thing at your local Targets?  Did it all just disappear?   Let us know what you are seeing in your town as we continue the countdown to new Star Wars product.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Time.com, The Wall Street Journal, The Saturday Evening Post, CNN.com, AssociatedPress.com Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

Yeah… completely wiped out. I thought it was just because my stores are still only starting their resets and I would see it all come back out when they were finished on Monday. Its going to be very odd to go back to walking the toy aisles and not seeing Star Wars product …

Same thing here in Wisconsin, there one day
    gone the next.

It all went clearance. Your stores may have not tagged it yet.

I’ve been hearing about this. Wal-Marts are doing the same thing calling it an “Embargo in Advance of Sept 4th” on their planograms. Have a slave Leia you don’t? Talk bad about her clogging the pegs did you? Know what you got till it’s gone you… don’t…

I still think they should duct tape her with those Jabba the Huts and call it an exclusive… its looked like the only way to get rid of them both.

The targets in my area are the same. Looks like they did their reset. All the leftover star wars stock was reduced to 30%. A few common figures left, but otherwise almost all gone. I’m in Southeast PA.

I stopped at one today and what little was still there was on clearance. Nothing to really be excited about but it was going away. I know there were several 6″ Leias, the “green army men” type of packs and the Titan scale Rebels multi-pack. I’m sure that there was more in that section, just drawing a blank on what it was. The Playskool stuff and the Hot Wheels were well stocked and still full price. The TRU in the same area was close to empty, as well, with the only thing well stock being the large-scale Jakks figures.

is it too much to hope that instead of star wars, they are gearing up to have an entire NECA section?

  • Disgusted Parent says:

I’m disgusted, that slave woman toy in your photo is unacceptably inappropriate. I demand it be removed immediately!

  • We’re trying, sir… she just won’t leave the store…

  • Michael says:

Targets have all been cleansed of SW items and they have been marked down and dumped in the clearance section out here in the Dallas area. Although it gave me an opportunity to pick up six more Scout troops fairly cheap.
