TRU Times Square – An Unexpected Journey
July 18, 2015

A week ago, I was in NYC, with my wife Sandy, to attend that night’s taping of The Daily Show with John Stewart.  On our way back to our hotel, I was taken back by a bunch of costumed people outside Toys R Us in Times Square.  Then I saw it, through the window, a giant Ferris wheel inside the store.  Sandy saw the look in my eye and said, “Yes, we can go in.”  I took a few pictures and then she said, “You should take a whole bunch and put this on AFi so everyone else can see it too.”  So here it is. TRU in Times Square, in pictures, in a large part thanks to my wife.

Erik "Superfriend" Skov
"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Isn’t it closing at the end of it’s current lease? I’m surprised you didn’t mention that (unless I’m mistaken).

  • Frank says:

Its a nice store, too bad, just like FAQ, that store will be closing too…from what I heard.

Yep. Toys r Us says they are going to try to find a smaller space in Time Square, if any exist at the moment. Its a shame they’re closing. I loved going there when I lived in NYC. They had a great selection of action figures for a store aimed at tourists.

I got to go to this store about five years ago when I was in NY. They had a lot of DC stuff at the time.
