July 1, 2007

Weta Limited today confirmed what they will be showcasing at this years’ San Diego Comic Convention and which Weta Crew will be attending the five day show.

Comic Con attendees will be the first people in the world to view four new pieces from a new soon-to-be released Weta Collectibles range. Public images of these exclusive pieces won’t be made public until day two of the event, so attendees will be the first in the world to see these exciting pieces. The title of this exciting new licence will be revealed shortly before Comic Con.

The Weta Originals team will be revealing an exciting new range of products from the Dr Grordbort’s range, along with the show exclusive piece, the Miniature Raygun, the Mini ManMelter. Pre-ordering is now open for this show exclusive piece at www.wetanz.com.

The creator of Dr Grordbort’s world, Weta illustrator and designer Greg Broadmore, will be attending all five days of the Convention. As a Comic Con exclusive, Greg will be signing a limited edition run of prints from the Dr Grordbort’s range and will be on hand to introduce some of the characters from the series.

Weta Publishing will be previewing a soon to be released publication at the event. This will be the first time the publication has been revealed publicly, and will be available to view only at the Comic Convention before its release.

Weta Limited will also be showcasing its four Weta Collectibles statues based on the upcoming PC Game, Hellgate: London, including The Male Templar, The Female Templar, The Hunter and The Cabalist. For those of you who have been waiting anxiously for the game to come out, these statues are a great way to get involved in the world of Hellgate: London.

Weta’s in house columnist, Weta Bug, will be attending Comic Con for the very first time. She will be reporting on the daily events, personalities and behind the scenes activities that go on at the Comic Convention for www.wetaholics.com. Look out for her with her red hair, Weta badge, bug antennae, notepad and camera.

Weta’s Merchandising Manager Jamie Wilson will be overseeing the Weta stand, which this year will include the range of Weta Original Rayguns, Hellgate: London statues and of course, the new range of Weta Collectibles that will be revealed soon…

Weta Limited’s Customer Services extraordinaire Olivia Darling will be on hand to answer any questions about Weta’s range of merchandise, how to order, shipping costs, and any other frequently asked questions.

The Weta stand will part of the stand of our exclusive Worldwide Sales Agent in the Northern Hemisphere, Dark Horse, stall number 2615 and will best be accessible through Entrance C.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.
