Why Vote? – You Might Be Heard!

The Poll: http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11001

2006 SDCC.  I was struck by certain figures.  Nemesis.  Sand.  Aquaman with two hands.  How had Mattel decided on such odd choices.  Then I remembered the we, the fans, knowing the policy of reusing parts in JLU, had actively discussed Nemesis and Sand as ways to reuse Lex Luthor’s holster.  Mattel had confused discussion with desire.  Aquaman with two hands was an item frequently requested.  But in this case, we were using the "with two hands" to refer to the classic Aquaman as seen in one episode of Superman TAS.  Mattel had given us what we asked for, just misinterpreted.  So I set out to make sure Mattel knew what we, the collective collector wanted most.

Poll 1 – Fall 2006.
http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5248
Skipping characters we knew Mattel could not make, top and high scoring characters included Male Heroes:#1=Hawkman, #3=Mr. Miracle, Female Heroes: Fire=#1, Ice=#2, Male Villains: Grodd=#1.  All of these have now been made.

Poll 2 – Spring 2007.
http://www.actionfigureinsider.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6868
Everyone was allowed.
Male Heroes:#1=Question(promised), #2=Captain Marvel(hinted at), #3=Captain Atom(shown NYCC).  Male Villains: Grodd was still #1, but #2=Atomic Skull(previewed), Female: #2=Giganta(shown), #4= Galetea(shown).

So.  If you want something, Speak up.  Be heard.  Go vote.

"Gathered together from the four corners of the universe." Oh, wait, that's the show, not me. Erik "SuperFriend" Skov never actually got to appear on the show, although he did watch it every week. Erik spent 6 years working for Hasbro in Pawtucket, RI before leaving for a job that paid more (Why else would a collector leave the company that was making Star Wars, Transformers, and while I was there Batman). I used to post all over the net. These days I tend to hang my hat at AFI.

Superfriend, I think the voting is an excellent idea! On a side note, I was kind of ho-hum when I heard that Sand was being made, but now he’s one of my favorite figures… go figure. LOL. Digressing… I do think Mattel has been listening as well, and in the recent voting poll I noticed that Adult Supergirl in Blue was MEGA REQUESTED and I want to thank everyone for that because she has always been one of my biggest requests since childhood, so when we got the one we have, I was really deflated. The iron purse was the coup de grace. That being said, not only is Mattel making fan requested characters, but they are also making repaints to represent more classic looks (ie Batman) or more show specific colors (ie Batman). This is a huge step in the right direction. Thanks again for putting all this together!!!

speaking of adult/blue SuperGirl, what about the LEGION from that ep? Considering the fan demand for figures from the LoSH series, why not incorporate them into JLU, it IS the animated DCU line, is it not?

I think Bouncing Boy is probably the main “new” body that needs to be made. Not many characters can use that, but same can be said about Darkseid, the apes (Grodd, Humanite), or Rocket Red. At least Vigilante’s torso can be re-used for SHAZAM!

I agree with you Brainlock. Not only do I want the LOSH, I think they’d we extremely easy for Mattel to make in the JLU scale. The reason I’d prefer them in the JLU line as opposed to the DCIH line, is just that JLU has a more classic silver age look to them, and I think that just pegs the Legion so well. It’s always frustrated me that with JLU they can only release a small handful of figures per wave (I think this is due to having to run every character by WB) when another line like DCIH can have 50 in a year… UGh. So alot of people get defensive because they feel that the LOSH will take the slot of one of their desired figures. Personally, I’m in this for the DCU, not for the Timm-verse, but to each his own. Hopefully everyone will see everyone that they want, LOSH included.

You know, I keep forgetting how many members of the Legion showed up in that episode. I keep thinking its just Brainiac5 and Bouncing Boy, when there are a ton of them in the fight scene near the end. Might make a good argument to put them into the JLU line.

OK, so we’re all voting. Can you tell us who the Super Delegates are so we can lobby them?

  • vancleef9000 says:

Mattel has misinterpreted again with Kilowog, the character was discussed on the boards, but in a “wouldn’t it be great to use “the Batman” Green Lantern body with the Kilowog head to get an in scale figure” way.

  • Jason ToyOtter says:

    I’m a super delegate.

Also, a dirty hyrax. But that’s neither here nor there.

  • Erik superfriend says:

I think Kilowog is included as a ‘this is the oldest figure we’ve made which has not yet been offered as a single.’ Kilowog was avialable in a 3 pack with GL Stewart and GL Tomar Re, but not again.
