Yvonne Craig Announces Likness Rights Deal With Warner Brothers
October 1, 2013

This past week on her official website, actress Yvonne Craig announced that she had reached an agreement with Warner Brothers on the rights to use her likeness for future 1966 Batman merchandise.

Hey Bat Fans!
To all of you who’ve been asking: I’m pleased to announce that I’ve just signed a licensing agreement with Warner Brothers. So expect to see Batgirl toys etc. on the market in the very near future. I look forward to seeing what they make.
Best Bat Wishes!
Yvonne

Ms. Craig has notoriously avoided signing over her likeness has lived many years as a quiet, private person.   She was the last major hold out in the 1966 Batman deal.   What the WB will do with the newly acquired rights, only time will tell, but fans would love to see Mattel’s TV Batman line expand to include Batgirl and I’m sure no one would mind if NECA and Hot Toys took a crack at her in their larger scales as well.

Daniel Pickett
Daniel “Julius Marx” Pickett has been around toys his whole life. The first line he ever collected was Mego’s World’s Greatest Super Heroes line back in the 70s. He has been surrounded by collectables ever since. In 1999 he was confounded by a lack of information and news about some of his favorite toy lines he was collecting. Since he couldn’t find the information he decided to pursue it himself thinking other people might also be interested in the same news. He started writing a weekly column on the toy industry and action figure for a toy news site and in a years time he tripled the sites daily traffic with his updates, reviews and product features. He built relationships with every major toy manufacturer and many sculptors, painters and mold makers. He grew his hobby into a world wide expertise that the industry has embraced. In 2004 he teamed up with his toy buddy Jason “ToyOtter” Geyer and they created their own website www.ActionFigureInsider.com. Daniel has been quoted in both industry and mass media press outlets. Over the years Daniel and AFi have been sought out as experts in the field. Daniel was regularly featured on “Attack of the Show” on the G4 network as the primary contributor to their “Mint On Card” segment, and our front page has been linked to from USA Today’s “Pop Candy” Blog twice. Daniel’s content has also been featured on MSNBC.com, Wired.com, Fark.com, Boing-Boing, Gizmodo.com, Ain’t It Cool News, the Official Star Wars blog, Geekologie, G4, CNet and Toy Fare magazine, among many others. He has consulted on toy lines, books, documentaries and TV shows. But all of that really just sounds snooty and “tootin’ his own horn” – the long and short of it is that Daniel loves toys and he LOVES talking about them.

Although Mattel stated that their 6″ Batman 1966 TV Show action figure line is done with only 1 wave of 6 characters, hopefully the news of Yvonne Craig’s licensing deal will give Mattel reason to reconsider and release a second wave and include Batgirl in the line. She was an important part of the TV series’ final season and the line really feels incomplete without her. Releasing her with some more villains (Mr. Freeze, Egghead, King Tut, etc…) would definitely sell.

Can the Yvonne Craig blow-up doll be too far behind? Stay tuned…

I won’t be shocked if/when this becomes an SDCC 2014 item (Batgirl with Motorcycle).

“While we can’t comment on unreleased figures, there are no plans that we can announce now.”

“No plans that we can announce but it takes over a year to produce any one figure and we’re already working on figures for 2015!”

“Nothing to announce right now until NYCC!”

“Please direct your question to the retail team.”
